    Locked container in vehicle

    Hi all,
I know the "gun must be in a locked container" law has been hashed over
to death but something else comes to mind. To those of us that have
pickup trucks, it's understood that a locked container is required in the
cab. but would a shell installed on the bed with a locking window be
considered the same as a trunk of a car? I have a tendency to think no,
it's not the same, but I really haven't read any discussion on it, or even
one of those cross bed tool boxes you see on work trucks. No, I'm not
trying to skirt the law at all, I'm just asking because....I don't know!

The container has to be locked. Otherwise anyone can jump in the bed and get your gun. The tool boxes would be legal as long as they lock

Most civilization is based on cowardice. It's so easy to civilize by teaching cowardice. You water down the standards which would lead to bravery. You restrain the will. You regulate the appetites. You fence in the horizons. You make a law for every movement. You deny the existence of chaos. You teach even the children to breathe slowly. You tame.

Are we talking handguns or long guns? If long guns, no lock is required.

If we're talking handguns, in my opinion (based on reading this: http://wiki.calgunsfoundation.org/Transporting) if access to the inside of the shell can only be achieved by unlocking a door, hatch, window or panel via a combo lock or key, then I'm good to go.

        YMMV.

For a pickup with no shell, get a locking hard case and toss it in the backseat or behind the seat in a single cab.

Assuming you can't access the bed thru a sliding rear window... a locked camper shell is equivalent to a trunk. But I still wouldn't have 'em viewable thru the camper windows....they'll get stolen.

Nondescript covert case with some dirty blankets covering it.

Whats more expensive - a lock and a case or a lawyer?

Buy a case for your guns, and a lock - when you transport them (in your car, in your trunk, under your seat, on the roof where ever) keep them in the case, with the lock on and you'll be good to go.

Why is everyone so concerned with the semantics of it all?

Locking case for handguns not locking hardcase. So many get it wrong. Read the cadoj regs.
