    Question for Sheriff's

    Dear LEO members

I was just wondering do most Sheriff's wear stab vest when they work inside the facility? If so, what brand and model?

Thank you so much for your help and your time.

I never did, no one I know ever did, and I don't think really anyone in LA County jails wear one... Unless things have changed in the last several years.

I have a vague recollection of them doing a Test/Eval on a stab resistant vest a long time ago, but never saw one nor heard anything else.

I don't nor do I know anyone that wears one in a county jail. I think that is more of a CDC thing.

That was always my impression too...that I was mostly a CDC thing.

I never even thought about wearing one...but I did try to stay in practice for hand-to-hand defensive grappling techniques

I did transport for many years and have been in MANY jails. Never saw anyone wearing them.

              1. You won't find very many Sheriffs working in their custody facilities (unless it's a PR stunt or something similar). You'll find, however, plenty of Deputies working in custody facilities.

              2. You should make your own determination on things. If all the other guys are NOT training, you won't either? If most of the other guys do NOT carry a back up weapon, you won't either? ETC...

FWIW, I didn't wear any edged weapon protective gear when I was working Custody BUT I would not begrudge or look down upon anyone else who chose to.

I haven't seen anyone wearing a stab vest at my facility but if it makes you more comfortable at work then go for it.

My dept looked at them but decided they were to expensive to buy for 200+ officers.

You're 3-4 weeks in, slow your roll and focus.

At where I work, I've seen a few young deputies wearing their regular vest under their uniforms. They told me that they want to get use to wearing their vest, so they'll be prepared when they go out to patrol. Patrol currently is anywhere to 2 to 5 years.

Can you think of a good reason to NOT wear one?
