    CHP OIS Contra Costa County

CHP officer and suspect both hit and hospitalized. Details sketchy but looks to have started with an enforcement stop during rush hour on I-680.

Prayers out to the officer for a speedy recovery.

    Story here.

the story keeps getting stranger with every press briefing. From the helo video it looks like the shooters car is behind the CHP unit. Prayers to the officer, and his family. Hopefully they can piece together the events, I know I am interested in hearing what transpired.

Should have mentioned suspect is dead, announced at 2PM press brief.

ABC News is reporting that the officer is on life support and not expected to survive. Other reports say that he has died.

        Sad Day.

It is going to get worse in California; I am coming back in a year or two, but so much has changed and seems like it is getting violent again for all working cops. I will probably be coming back for my family, but it will be a scarier time than when I left in 2009.

prayers sent for the officer and his family

Early reports are that he was shot in the spinal cord which has me baffled since he should have had a vest on... makes me wonder if the shooter was armed with a hi-powered weapon of sorts

              either way this is tragic

I was driving passed John Muir hospital earlier in the day. Saw tons of news media and LEOs. All the best to the officer. I heard the suspect was an Hispanic Woman.

Hoping for a miracle that he pulls through.

Thoughts are with the family and all CHP officers.

There was a dead deer on the road way next to the scene. I wonder if the assailant was poaching when he was approached by officers.

I drove by the area around 1330.
There was a lot of LEO presence, and the ramps were closed.

according to news reports the deer had nothing to do with the shooting. as it had been reported hrs before the traffic stop was initiated but could explain why a CHP vehicle was parked in front of the Jeep that was involved in the shooting... still to early to know for sure.
