I could swear the Caprices our auto guys have been looking at told us they had a V-8. I'll need to follow up on that.

I went on a ride-along a few weeks ago for San Bernardino Sheriff's, and I did get to ride in the caprice that night. It is smooth, very responsive, and quite roomy. It also did go up to 140mph really quickly, and when braking hard, it did not feel like I was going to fly out of my seat. The deputy at the time did say they were still trying to decide if they would use that as their preferred vehicle, but they were not happy with the Ford alternatives so far.

I do not know if that is still the case.

I was most impressed with....

Level III Ballistic protection in the doors on those new fords. Has that been standard already for some time on LE vehicles? Been a while since I was in a patrol car but that caught my attention

It was an option for the crown vics police package. The last crown vics we ordered were purchased with the door armor. I guess ford is making it an included item on the new interceptors.

How about the K-Cars???

Drove those at one time while working for .mil. Couldn't keep front ends in them, and as patrol units they were pretty worthless.

My fave was the mid 90's Caprice, that thing flat out flew.

Great cars.... me and mine circa 2000 below. Had over 75K miles on it by then but in a straight line it sure was quick.

The new Dodge Charger front ends must have come from the "K" cars, lol,, the front ends are still rubbish.

I hated the '82 Plymouth Fury too. Hard to turn and would stall out when trying to make a uturn in a hurry.

I think the worse POS cars we had were Ford LTD's they had four lug wheels and the smallest brakes of any police vehicle ever. Now in the mid 90's we experimented with propane powered units....Kind of a pain to fuel. The only real issue was in pursuits which if they went out of the area the units would run out of propane and have to be towed home

Got to agree on the POS LTD of 84-85 vintage. Too small and the brakes faded fast.
