Santa Margarita Gun Club will be hosting a XTC (across the course) high power NRA sanctioned match at Camp Pendleton Saturday August 25, 2012- see link.
You must pre-register for this match to gain access to the base. You must register by August 23, 2012.
This is a great opportunity to really get to know just how well you can shoot your AR. The course is shot over 200, 300, and 600 yards. The targets are scored after each shot, so no guess work is involved.
You will need to watch a video on how to work the pits, and also you should have a good idea how many inches your bullets drop at 200, 300 and 600 yards, and how to adjust your iron sights accordingly (know your zeros)
200 yards, 20 shots, offhand slow fire (standing)
200 yards, 20 shots rapid fire, sitting
300 yards, 20 shots rapid fire, prone
600 yards, 20 shots, slow fire, prone
Here is a short tutorial on working the pits. Its not that hard...but you do have to do it in a quick time so as to not hold up your shooter.
The range at camp pendleton is one of the best in the nation, so why not come out and give XTC a shot!
You will need 88 rounds of ammo to compete and complete this event.
You can hire a pit puller for $20.00 for the day if you want a more relaxed time of it.
You also can use an AR, M1A, or Garand in this match for scores, or any other rifle up to 30-06 at this range, but you cannot win the match unless you have a rifle which is a Service or match rifle for this event. Nevertheless, its a great opportunity to escape the crowds and really get a good chance to see how you can accurately can shoot.
