Greetings to my brothers and sisters in blue...and green. I currently equipt myself with a couple of blades while on duty and wanted to get your input on these karambit style knives. A few of my buddys are using them but im still a skeptic. If you carry one of these blades, do share what type and why you like it. Im thinking of picking one up and trying it on for a while. Thanks in advance. Be safe.

Emerson folding Karambit with a wave in my weak side pocket (clipped in). Sole purpose of the blade is slicing an opponent who is attempting to take my pistol, while my strong side arm attempts to retain pistol....
One handed opening, razor sharp, and ease of use for slicing someone open is while I carry one.
Train hard, fight hard, survive..... Good luck brother.... -
Thanks for the input. I prefer to have a fixed blade over something that requires me to open it before use. Its just one step I can eliminate when it counts most. Our 5.11 rep has shown me a few and they fit my hand well. Since its free and comes with a sheath, I may add it to my gear line-up. Anyone have any experience with this blade? Thanks again.VETERANLEOComment

They are pretty cool except the curved shape makes them alittle hard to carry and deploy. You have to deploy them in a curved motion because it with take the sheath right off and you can only carry on your side because the curved shape is akward when seated. Other than what I mentioned I love it and find it a lot more simple opposed to my folders. This is the only fixed type blade I carry.Last edited by cdownin; 08-14-2012, 12:57 AM.

Karambits are excellent carry blades and don't require fine technique to use (just don't try to spin it without proper training). Very brutal blade. Love mine."The police cannot protect the citizen at this stage of our development, and they cannot even protect themselves in many cases. It is up to the private citizen to protect himself and his family, and this is not only acceptable, but mandatory" Jeff Cooper

I didn't carry a real karambit but I carried a few of the Cold Steel hawkbill types, the Harpy and the Wizard. Kept losing them and buying them and then they got hard to find and so I never bothered again.
I do love the hook blade as I can dig under a belt or something and cut without having a pointy tip at someone but you can also buy a belt slicer that can do it faster and easier.
To each his own.I like guns

IMO, the vast majority of people who haven't had karambit/kerambit specific training won't be able to use that blade design to its maximum potential. That is NOT to say, however, that someone without any formal karambit training would Not be able to do some serious damage with one! I'm just saying that a lot of people in the market for a karambit might find something like an Emerson La Griffe, CRKT Bear Claw, Kabar TDI, Front Sight Hideaway, or Cold Steel push dagger more intuitive and utile. For SHTF duty carry, I also would recommend (when allowable) fixed bladed carry. I have a karambit or two and trainers but don't carry any on duty. IF I were to carry one on duty and was going Big it would be a Joe Brum/Dionaldo/Hossom kerambit. If not, maybe a 5.11 sharpened on both sides...Comment
