Reporting a theft that is caught on video

I had my very awesome Yakima/Thule mountainbike carrier ripped off the roof of my car on Monday morning. All of it is caught on video camera in my apartment complex's security system.

What's the best way to report this to ensure the video evidence gets to be part of the report? Do officers have to come to my building and make their own copies of the video? Would it all be "admissible evidence" if I were to burn a copy to CD and take it in to the West Valley LAPD? (btw I have tried calling them to report it and ask, but the hold times for something like this seem to be very long)

To save yourself some time, burn it before hand. Don't know what LAPD's response time for your area would be since it's a cold report. If it were my agency, I'd ask you to bring it to the station and have any and all identifying information for the carrier, i.e. make model.

Also if you could print some still photo's of the alleged suspect, have those handy too. Just makes it easier for everyone.

Did the video capture the suspects face? Even with surveillance footage, its hard to pin it on someone. They don't tend to send the evidence to get digitally enhanced unless it's a major case.

Video footage shows this guy must be a pro. Cruised past, later did U, waited a few buildings back for the coast to clear, then swooped in, back up adjacent to my car, had all the tools he needed and was gone in less than a minute. I'm sure this guy much have struck elsewhere. I'll drop the footage off later today.

Cold burgs used to take four hours or more for LAPD to respond and for FMV, they used to make you drive the car to the station so they can do the report there.
