    Need opinions from LEO

This question is not really for me but for my girlfriend. She is in the backgrounds process for LASD. She took her Polygrapgh exam twice and both are inconclusive. She is now scheduled for her third Polygraph exam. I just don't understand why it's been inconclusive twice. But I'm proud of her because she is also getting ready to take the voice Stress test for Riverside County probation. I guess my question is can she be DQ'd from LASD if her third Polygraph exam is inconclusive?

Just wondering. Because I don't know what to tell her. She worked really hard and put herself in position to succeed and become a LEO.

They will probably have a different person administer the next polygraph. From my understanding, it's more in how the administrator interprets the results, rather than the results themselves. I had to take two separate ones, I hated them. Good luck to her!

If they want her, they can accept whatever they want unless she flat out tells them certain things. Polygraphs are professional witch hunting interrogations done in a quasi-scientific setting. There's a reason why those things are not admissible in court.

The fact that the department is even spending effort/money on a third polygraph is good. I imagine most departments would have simply called her in to explain the inconsistencies on the first polygraph and dismissed her if they weren't satisfied with her answers.

Back when I had my background poly, I was called in to explain a "unusual reading" on a question involving alcohol. I had a friend injured in a collision by a drunk driver earlier that year, and apparently my reading for that question showed a "strong reaction." They just wanted me to clarify that point, and it was never again an issue as I was hired.

          What notorious said.

Polygraph sessions rely mostly on people "throwing up" on themselves and changing their story by confessing to some wrong doing, when they failed to mention it originally to a background investigator.

                  Polygraph:

Q: "Have you ever paid for sex?"

                  A: "Of course. I'm married."
