    SJPD question

Just got done with my oral board with SJPD everything went well. I was informed on the spot that I passed the oral board and will be receiving a background package in the mail soon (I believe its due to the fact that I was a out of state applicant). I was just curious if anyone may have a answer to this question. Does the SJPD allow their officers to carry their own firearm on duty or must it be a department issued weapon?

    Thanks!

As far as I know issue only. Not 100% positive since my buddy left about a year ago.

Department issue only unless something has changed since I last checked, but that was about 10 years ago. Sig P226s I believe.

SJPD has requirements as to what is allowed but you can carry anything along those guidelines after you qualify with it. The dept. issue is a Sig but many guys carry glocks and 1911s.

One of the guys on MERGE used to carry an OD glock until an LT noticed it. MERGE guy responded with “There’s no policy against it.” Not to long after a policy came out outlining blued, black, or nickel colored guns only.

While I don’t agree with the same tone as Unit74 he is correct in that SJ has lost about 400 officers in the last 5-8 years (1400 down to 1000) with many applying to lateral or retire.
Morale is low and the calls are often back to back with minimal staffing but it’s a spot in the bay area in a busy city.

Best of luck in your process, IIRC the “next” academy is supposed to be this coming Fall.

So if I was interested in getting the Wilson combat CQB would I be able to get it in black?
