Need advice from a LASD please!!!

    Hello,

My closest friend is a deputy and will be going out on patrol soon. He is also about to move into his new house.

As a housewarming present I would like to get him a shotgun for HD and also something he can use for patrol when he finally goes out.

I was told there are only a certain few shotguns that are approved for deparment use.

Is this true and if so can you tell me which models?

    Thanks guys!!!

Personal shotguns are not approved.patrol shotguns are custom Remington 870P with Knoxx specops stocks, surefire lights, and 14 inch barrels. You could get close buying an 870 and adding the aftermarket parts so the manual of arms would be similar...but he won't be able to use it on duty.

He can have whatever he wants for his home personal shotgun but has to use the department issue for patrol

870 is one of the best SG out there.

          You're a good friend!

If he can get someone to shine his shoes to glass, that's half the battle right there.

Haha, I remember when he went through that. He has been been sworn for a few years now, just waiting to get out of the jail and to a station.

yeah right...If he has only a couple of years on he is going to the AV...tip of the spear...busiest stations (LAN#1, PLM#2 in the county).

patrol is a blast and yes training sucks but it is the most fun he will have in the department. He will be king of the world when that TR comes off his name...

tell him good luck and stay humble...

Thatguy80- Get him a gift certificate from his favorite local gunstore and let him pickout his HD /backup weapon.

Fifty cents- he buys an 870 variant.

You guys still use shotguns instead of AR15's? I thought departments were transitioning away from those. I know a local department only uses shotguns for LL use.
