CA LEO: Question about AR pistol

Ok, can I, as a CA LEO, purchase any AR stripped lower and register it as a pistol (roster exempt)?

I am having a HELL of a time finding a definitive answer on this.

What about an AR lower DROS'ed as a long gun. Is it legal/illegal to build it into a pistol if the lower has never been built as a long gun?

I have DROS'ed stripped or built lowers as pistols. Went through DOJ just fine.
