If you graduated from high school you should pass. I showed up in professional business attire. Just relax and be yourself during your oral if they give it to you the same day like they did me.

Excellent Advice here. You are being watched at every phase of the process. You don't get a second chance to make a first impression.

        1st: Good luck!
2nd: Anytime I go to a test date, pickup paperwork, etc, I am wearing a nice suit and tie. Basically the goal is to look as clean cut and professional as you can.
3rd: I have my written with them on Friday the 22nd.

          Good luck to you both.

I have an appointment on the 20th to turn in my background packet.

There's actually a study guide/practice test on the LASD website if you want to have an idea of what type of testing it'll be

I just can't remember exactly where on the site it is.
I'm sure it'll come up if you use the search function.

          EDIT:
          found it

Good luck to you all. I still remember the date I took the test in 1985. Now, I have 2 years 9 months and 2 days to go, before I hang my hat.

Congrats on the pass. I actually just had my oral interview this past Saturday and am on the the next step which is the background. This doesn't worry me nearly as much as the PAT so I've been training pretty hard for that because I'm not a small guy. Any tips on passing the PAT? What can I expect going into it? I know that most are similar but I'm sure can differ as well. Any input is appreciated!

First, congratulations to the OP. There are a few of us here who are either retired from LASD or who are presently working for them. I believe and I believe my friend Ron-solo will agree, LASD is a find dept. Doesn't it have it's weaknesses and problems; sure it does as do all leas. It is one of the best trained depts. in the country and I wish you good luck as you proceed.

As to the post above: When you say your not a small guy, I hope you mean you are not very overweight and out of shape. You must be in shape before you enter the academy or it is doubtfull, IMO, you will pass. If you think the academy will get you into shape; it will, but if you are not ready, you won't make it.

I was in great shape prior to entering due to my preparation and my years long time playing numerous racquetball games on a daily basis for over a decade. I graduated in the best shape of my life at 26 due to the PT they put us through.

If you had the chance to see any of the Fox TV show "The Academy" a few years ago, it traced cadets going thru the academy. There were some cadets who arrived overweight and out of shape. Not surprisingly, they had the most troubles completing the PT aspects of the academy.

You should have been running, doing pushups and situps, along with squat thrusts and pull ups for awhile now.

Screw up a few times, you'll get extra push ups to aid your physical conditioning.
