    Reserve Officer Testing for OC

Hello, Im about to take my test on July 14 to become a reserve deputy for Orange County and I want to be best prepared for it. From what I have gathered (website and talking to the Reserve Office), their testing includes:

    Written Test
    Physical Agility Test
    Oral Interview
    Background Check
    Academy

    Written test seems common sense.

I am a bit worried about the Physical Test, "3 foot high saw horse, Wooden Barricades, balance beam, 4 foot high hurdles, window and hall simulation run, 50 yard sprint, 15 sit-ups and 15 push-ups within 5 minutes " seems pretty tough. Is there somewhere I can practice for this?

Oral Interview: Does anyone have experience with this step? I would like to know what would generally be asked in the interview section of the process here.

The rest of background check is pretty easy because I dont think I have much to worry about.

    Thank you for your advice.

Oh, sorry, I see now that it is all split up onto different levels.

I believe that is the training afterwards. Im going to start at level III and move up to II and then I. The first level I believe is 24h of firearms training, and 40h of arrests. After that level, im not sure.

The hours requirement is 20 hours a month, but I plan on putting in even more.

Zero Tolerance rule even to steroids an eon ago and a polygraph. I have spoken to two applicants in the last month that were tripped up thinking "But that was so long ago!"!

Good luck on your endeavor, they can use the help.

I did not go to OCSD but have heard it is similar to the academy experience at my department. In general the OCSD is known for having a very tough academy. I have also heard they have some pre-academy training classes. Here are things you can do on your own.

Its VERY important that you don't show up out of shape. The initial physical test will be easy compared to how the next 5 months of full stress academy PT will unfolded. Run. A lot. We ran and ran and ran. And then we ran more. Push ups. Tons of them. And don't cheat. The DI's will notice and then you will be doing them with a baton between your fingers. Sit ups. Mountain climbers. Squat thrusts. Pull ups. Repeat. Push yourself. Push your body because they will.

The good news is these exercises can be specifically conditioned for. You can do other stuff just make sure you do these. A lot of the people that washed out of my class showed up out of shape and got injured as a result and could not continue.

            Have fun!

Thats exciting. From what ive read, the academy is only fire arms and arrest. But this is way better. Im going to have an excercise plan for this. Exciting!
