Well written article. If the allegations are true, the two Deputies and their associates will get a well deserved smack down. The Deputies have brought disgrace to their uniform.

I can't think of too many department that haven't had something like this happen buut usually it's a Sgt or above who would have access to weapons that I assume were evidence. Years back in my Dept it was the Sheriff and a Deputy Chief.

Knew it was coming. Also know it was going to be serious but surprised at how numerous the allegations are and I'll reserve judgement but wow, just wow.

ETA: These are the same dudes that are going to cost all of us LEOs our chance to sell any off roster handgun to a non-LEO in this state. It is just a damn shame but we are our own worst enemies sometimes.

"Dangerous hanguns" and converted to "assault weapons." Blah blah blah. Handguns and rifles that are totally legal an hour away in Nevada. Our California gun laws are so asinine. Why are the feds getting involved....the guns are not federally illegal. This is all so stupid.

Those quotes were just used to pump up the case and make it sound much more serious than it is.

So lets see, I have several M1 Carbines. If I decide to sell them and some of the buyers decide to put a flash hider or folding stock on it and make it an "assault weapon", or turn around and sell it to a prohibited person, am I now legally responsible?

Allegations include straw sales, a federal crime, and probably also include dealing without an FFL given the volume of units they are alleged to have resold.

They are being made examples of.... something that the federal government often tries to do, to varying degrees of success.

One of my old academy mates that went to work for Sacto County many years ago and is still there in a ranking position told me it is much more serious and there are many more intricate details to the case than they are allowed to talk about. He said it was a battle for a while whether they were going to get prosecuted on a local or federal level. I wish them the best in their defense.

"Well written"? Did you actually read the article?

The level of Fail in this piece of #### article is stunning. Both of these deputies are going to be acquitted of everything except maybe acting as gun dealers without possessing an FFL.

Hopefully, this will result in the legislature evening out the law and forcing LEOs to be subject to the Safe Handgun Roster. That would be the only positive outcome to this absurd situation.

The selling of high cap mags if they come in the form of rebuild kits, how is that illegal. Machine pistols that fire the standard NATO round, are they not the single shot AR pistol or Sig Sauer pistol how are those illegal to sell. The 50 cal revolver, nothing illegal about that. And the semi auto copy of an UZI, i see them for sale in local gun stores, the article makes it sound so grizzly almost like child pornography.
I get the feeling this is more like a witch hunt, unless the two accused officers were selling the guns on the street rather than going through the right channels with an FFL i cannot for the life of me see a crime that has been committed.
I see the perception of someone selling guns for a profit but that's only one persons perception of another. We all buy and sell guns on this board and many of us are police officers and many times we make a profit or we would like to, so how can one take that and construed such a story or crime from what these to officers were doing, and again unless they did sell the guns to someone who was a convicted felon or to someone with out going through a FFL then i don't see any crime being committed.

But you can berate me on this i would welcome seeing the true light.

See, all cops are bad...... but wait, they are selling people stuff that this stupid state has no business restricting. I sure hope these guys walk.

I'm sorry you look at it that way... It should be, "the cops can have it, we should too" not "the cops have it, so I'm bitter and hope they get in trouble and make things worse for them immediately, and all of us long term."

IF LEO's become subject to the roster, it's a step backwards and a win for the anti's.
