    Brother joining the LAPD

my bro is thinking about joining the LAPD. he filled out PSB application online and his written test is on the 29th of this month. does anyone know what the selection rate is? my brother has an extremely clean record. never even had a parking ticket. he is 23 years old.

does he have a good chance of getting hired?

also, the most thing that has been bothering him for a LOOONG time is when he gets in the training academy. he is extremely picky when he eats. he only eats organic, non-gmo food. is it possible he can bring his own food on the days he have off and store it in the frig? there is no way he will eat cafeteria food.

another question is that does he have to sleep at the academy? can he just drive from home to the academy every morning?

    thanks

My friend who is in the hiring process told me LAPD is on a hiring freeze right now. Also, he should not be picky about ANYTHING AT ALL. He needs to suck it up during the academy. The food should be the last thing he needs to worry about if he does make it to the academy.

There are so many other things he needs to worry about during the academy. Also, he can drive back home every day during his time in the academy.

        LASD was testing recently.

Your brother isn't thinking about joining anything until they ask. Then he can think about it.

LAPD is hiring. He has a chance if he applies.
You bring your own food to the academy or you don't eat. You drive to all three academy locations. There is no where to sleep, unless you sleep in your car.

Sounds like you or your brother need to do some more research before doing anything else.

Joining any law enforcement agency is not just about having a clean record. It is about having skills, abilities, or a demonstrated history which would make you a good police officer. In this competitive job market, agencies can pick and choose candidates on criteria more than just, "a clean record."

One of the questions any applicant should expect to answer is, "What have you done to prepare yourself?" The answer should be more than just, "I stayed out of trouble."

As for the Academy, the LAPD Academy runs a Monday-Friday schedule. Training starts at 0600 HRS and run until 1430 HRS with a 30 minute meal break. Food is not provided at the location. No recruit should rely on food found at any of the training locations as you do not have enough time to order and get food which is sometimes available. There are some optional additional training provided on an occasional Saturday and it is highly recommended that recruits participate in the extra training.

The LAPD Academy is not a live-in academy like other state or federal academies. Recruits will be assigned to training at three different locations, Ahmanson Recruit Training Center near Los Angeles International Airport, Elysian Park near Dodger Stadium, and Davis Training Facility near the 405/5 freeeways.

                  Good luck on your efforts.

That just means if he is hired, he will be put at the location farthest from his home.

To clarify, recruit training is conducted at all three training locations.

Elysian Park starts and ends the training Academy 6 month schedule.
ARTC is where the majority of the Physical Training/Self Defense training occurs with a large portion of the Academics and Law courses.
DTF handles the EVOC driving, firearms, and the majority of the specialized tactics training.

Recruits are required to go to all three training locations throughout their training time based on what class they have.

Thanks for clearing that up. My comment then isn't applicable, but, if there were 3 separate academies (similar to the two my former dept. has), I bet he would be sent to the furthest one from his home.

Last I heard, the Spice Cafe was scheduled to leave the ARTC due to disagreements on the lease.

They are still a catering company so you can hire them if you miss the food.
