    Any other feds here?

Are you signing up for AFGE E-dues? Our local is pushing all former members to join the E-dues thing, but I don't see a point in continuing to pay AFGE. Until the courts hear the case the union is powerless to do anything for us, and im not even sure if I want to continue working for Fed Law enforcement right now. is there something I'm missing?

Nope, I’m just a lowly local LEO stuck under PEPRA.

There’s supposedly “strong talks” that PEPRA is going to be struck down but I can’t bank on that.

That's state union right? I never thought we would lose our union but here we are.
I hate this push to strip unions away from law enforcement. Between the offenders BS complaints and office politics officers need union protection/representation.

        No, sir.

PEPRA is the pension reform act passed back in 2013 during Gov. Moonbeam’s second stint. In short, it extends years of service, reduces our pension amounts, and caps the amount we can earn. There’s more, obviously, but it’s no bueno.

The term ‘fed” is kind of vague, but from reading this and other posts believe you are employed with the federal Bureau of Prisons (BoP). I’m not sure what your dues cost, but it is well worth it in my opinion to have someone representing you in case you are the subject of a complaint. Your e-dues thing sounds specific to BoP employees (and likely AFGE members). A majority of gun toting federal LE are represented by FLEOA (though they aren’t a bargaining unit per se rather more to be there in case something goes sideways) and everyone pretty much pays their dues annually. However think of it (paying union dues/membership) as something you may not need, but want to have the ability to have representation just in case something comes up.

FLEOA and SAMBA are the non-union ones. Special immediate pay-out death bennies for the family should something happen, + some other off-duty/non-agency-issue gun shooting liability coverage.
