A lot of guys I know are going with the TAG Aggressor armor carrier. Comfortable, durable and plenty of molle real estate. The nice thing about the outer carrier type vests is on a hot day you can kind of open them up in your vehicle or station to let out the heat.

We offer a complete selection of plate carriers, tactical vests, body armor kits, molle pouches and ballistic helmets.

Are you looking for a raid vest (or active shooter up armor) or a 12 hour/day uniform vest? Do you need rifle plates? How much/what gear do you need to hang off the vest? Does it need to be a certain color (matching uniform)?

Who is your current vest issued through. I have a molle tac vest that I wear for daily duty that I ordered through my vest manufacturer. I would check with them first to see if they offer one since your issued armor will fit it perfectly.

Some co-workers wear the Blackhawk Condor vests and the breakaway style vests too. They are much bulkier and heavier then mine but they have more molle space on them.

well I have just been informed we are not cleared for the molle vests.

Now it will just be for active shooter/training. It would require level 3a soft plates. No hard rifle plates needed, but for the right price I would do a rifle plated vest. Would have to be uniform matching (black/dark pd blue)

I am not a fan of the palm vests. I have been looking at some of the eagle industries types. I am about 6'1 185

What is the difference between cutaway and non cutaway?

Well a few agencies around here have gone with the Point Blank external carrier for daily duty use. We have the option for that vest or a Richard Cowell Tactical non carrier vest.

A lot of depts in San Gabriel Valley seem to use www.thevestman.com because it is a cleaner look than molle. But, I do like the molle type a lot more. Tactical Tailor has a nice one (http://www.tacticaltailor.com/vests-...-armor-carrier). It sits high enough on the waist so even a high ride holster will work.

For an active shooter vest, I'd o with a Shellback Tactical Banshee, with rifle plates....

There are a few people on different shifts testing the vestman carriers.

I got to check one out and listen to the gripes. I'll pass on it.

As my active shooter rig, this is what I carry along with my LvL 3 hard plates and my 3 mag kangoo rifle/pistol pouches. It's durable and plenty of molle room and very affordable. Plus it has the velcro for POLICE patches, front and back, built in.

Do you wear a vest on patrol already? What level?

If you are already 'vest-ed' to a level of protection you are comfortable with in an active shooter or like situation. Look at getting a chest rig such as TAG's Marine Gladiator. Put on a soft badge and "POLICE" patch and a few mission critical pouches (i.e. IFAK and pistol mags) and you are good-to-go.

If you want to 'up armor' to rifle plates (level 3 or 4), take a look at something like a Shellback Banshee or need something for the plain-clothes units to grab (and want rifle protection). There are other options but without knowing your budget, it's hard to suggest. Remember 3a is not rated against for 'rifle' rounds, It's still soft armor. For rifle threats you need hard plates.

Been wearing a Vestman vest for a while as a detective. No real complaints, just make sure you're sure where you want your gear. They just got approved for patrol and guys say that they will never work a shift with a full duty belt again. I've done a couple OT shifts with nothing on my belt but my gun and mags and it's pretty nice.

Now that I think about it, on my first vest the mag pouches were a little too deep. I just stuffed some paper towels in there to get them to the right level. Didn't bug me enough to send it back and be without it for a couple weeks. We've had guys send vests back for various issues and they seem pretty good about making right.

I do understand 3a is for the majority of pistol rounds. Budget isnt really an issue. As long as it's reasonable.

                              Really? Yikes!
