any practical LEO applications for .22lr?

training? animal control? Are rimfires still/have been used in law enforcement?

I believe some tactical teams keep suppressed .22s for occasional use taking out street lights etc. I have also seen a show where New Orleans PD was using suppressed .22s to keep down the nutria population on the levees.

IIRC there was an article about rural PDs using 22LR for animal control (injured by car or rabid possums/racoons etc. ).

As I said, SOME tactical teams keep suppressed .22s for OCCASIONAL use.

That is the most common use in NorCal too

              * .22 conversion units for carbine training
              * Humane applications for those agencies that have the function

Those are the only two I am aware of.

We put down a number of deer struck by cars and raccoons that are feverish. I would like a .22 for that purpose, but we have always used the duty pistol. I think DS beanbag rounds would work better and be safer for the surrounding community to take out lights and such. I know they will penetrate windows.

I understand that some SWAT teams used surpressed .22s to keep dogs from being a problem during entries.

MK-9 canisters of OC and fire extinguishers seem to work pretty well and don't leave everybody pissed off that you shot a dog.

trigger control practice is what I use the round for. Cheap and it's cheap.

As a department protocol, none in SoCal I am aware of. As a personal training tool, lots of cops use it.

But I wouldn't mind seeing tac teams using suppressed 22s as "hush puppies" to take out guard dogs and sentries like the military does.

these were supposedly used by prisons,
