I have been on a hiring committee several times at work. We are told what we can ask and what is off limits. We have a list of question to ask, taking turns asking. Toward the end we ask our own questions. At the end we make a recommendation to the hiring supervisor, he or she has the final decision. Any more, you almost have to be connected to someone to even get an interview.
