    LASD tests passed!

I went and took my written test for the LASD and passed it on Friday. I then started some background paperwork with them and got into my oral interview and passed it as well!! The Deupty I spoke with pulled me into his office and handed me a background packet to complete for my BI and said that he would be having a jacket made for me and that he was going to try to get me in an out of state class but that there was not enough time! All in all I had a great day there and really enjoyed everyone I spoke with! So my next step is waiting for my BI to call me. The deputy said to be patient because they had over 60,000 applicants or some astronomical number but that they would take care of me. My first impressions of this department and its staff could not be any better.

You took your written and oral on the same day?

    Congratulations, by the way!

Yes sir I did, they put me in the out of state testing group because I live about 5 hours away from LA, so they graded tests, and those that passed got right into interviews same day! Thank you very much!

While I hope the rest of your impressions/experiences with the LASD are the same, I would not bet on it - I might suggest keeping your expectations low and be pleasantly surprised when things work out well (or the way they "should")...

Well nothing ever stays perfect for ever, we will just have to wait and see.

An "Off the Streeter" is someone they hire while waiting for an academy class to put them in, preventing another agency from snatching them up. They work some jail positions such as control booths, monitoring security cameras at a courthouse, etc.

Good program, and your seniority starts right away with benefits and pay.

That's how it went for me 23 years ago...written and oral on first day. The rest of the process took just over 6 months, and that was with them losing my jacket for a couple of weeks. I have never regretted going with the LASD, and the last 22 years on have flown by. Congratulations on passing the first tests.

What is the jacket? A green lasd jacket? I'm assuming they give it to you before the start of the academy? They said my jacket was being made, but I haven't even met with a BI yet, granted my background is squeaky clean.
