why Dodge Charger instead of 300?

After trying both I'd much rather be in a 300 if I was going to be in for hours every day.

I also liked the "high waist band" of the 300 more, it makes you feel protected and would be good for installing bullet proofing in doors.

I've also heard larger cars can be 'safer' in real world street racing because the bumps on the road are smaller and less disruptive.

Isn't the new protocol not to get in all out Death Races after fleeing suspects out of concern for bystanders, thus making the Charger's sportiness less important?...and the 300 does come with big hemi and comes is station wagon as well.

I thought they always went with fullest of full size for squad cars, and I believe even a 300 is smaller than Crown Vic or Impala.

And what about us guys that more often ride in the back of a cop car? I'd seriously be worried about lawsuits from any super-sized arrestee left for any length of time in the back of a Charger.

Charger and 300 are the same car, Kind of like the Crown Vic and the Lincoln Continental. I think you are thinking of the Challenger.

I could've sworn the 300 was roomier inside and bigger outside.

I'll re-check that. And I hear the Challenger is on "same platform" as well and I was wanting one in Vanishing Point white.

Some M-Benz and BWMs aren't too far off from Charger in price, considering. Maybe they could be the "full size RWD" LE choice if not for "buy American".

IIRC, ritzy town of Aspen had Saabs, and uber-wealthy town of Altherton in San Mateo County had Volvos 240 4dr sedans. I'm not sure I'd stop for a cop in a Volvo.

I guess "buy American, UAW, etc" doesn't have much clout in those communities on a personal level.

Sure seems 'wrong' that both GM and Ford no longer have a full size RWD platform besides trucks and maybe SUVs. I guess SUV is the new family sedan.

We just got 2012 Chargers and I love them. They replaced our Crown Vic's and older model Chargers. So far they are the best cars I've driven in on patrol.

I heard the Charger was narrower (interior seat space) and had less trunk space than the Crown Vics.

            Not terribly popular around here.

Augusta, Maine used to have Volvo 244 Turbos for their patrol cars, and they were fast as hell.

My dad used to be the Chief in a small-town department in Maine when I was born. He tried to get the city council to authorize 4-door VW GTI's for their cruisers. He was pissed when they shot that idea down ...

yeah, those Volvos are sleepers, my bud had old .67 122 and while

it didn't have much power, that dorfy looking thing could corner better than any American 'sports car'.

The 740 wagons are legit 140mph vehicles, and I'd get one but they got a bad rep for reliability.

I liked driving the Charger but as a mobile office/work space it would be iffy. I'd much rather have a crew cab pickup.

Some of the older Saab turbos are 140+ too. Used to have a 1991 Saab 9000 Turbo - 2.3 I4 turbo, 14.5 lbs boost stock - and it was still pulling hard when the governor cut the fuel at 141.4 MPH, according to my GPS.

I'm in the market for late model 9000, I've been using classic 900s

for a few years and nothing else really does it.

6' of flat in rear with seats rotated forward, massive out of sight, out of mind trunk space, no thick pillars to block vision, ton of head room, rain gutters for Thule racks in any position. Nothing else has that massive under(?)steer for safety when dodging slow traffic. With hatch up it hauls a full size fridge or couch no problem or washer AND dryer, and still transforms into Euro grand touring coupe.

Perfect bodywork dimensions, plus no crooks even look twice because it is so weird. Not the stolen car a gang banger wants to present to his higher ups.

In the LE market GM has the new Caprice, and it seems to be a capable patrol vehicle from what I've read. I think the LAPD tested some in realworld duties and was pretty happy with them.

Yeah, the police Caprice is an LS3 V8, rear wheel drive, based on the Holden Monaro platform from GM of Australia. Very nearly identical to the now defunct Pontiac G8. Police fleet sales only presently. If you want one for a personal ride, have to keep an eye out at police auctions and hope you get an unmarked lieutenants or captains car that didn't get thrashed.
