    LEO holster question****ADVICE!!

To: Current, former LEO and/or CG-ers who are reading this with insight on a TACTICAL STYLE LEG HOLSTER.

There are two different styles of the tact holster that I'm looking at, one with a single strap the other with a double strap. Has anyone reading this used either the 1 or 2 before?

My department is buying me one due to an injury 5 months ago which restricts me from wearing a normal holster on my right hip.

Any suggestions or advice will help.

    Thank you.

By single/double "strap" are you talking about the vertical strap(s) that hold the holster assembly to your belt or the horizontal strap(s) that go around your leg?

Depends on your body type, but I imagine most folks only need 1 strap unless you're super tall. Most guys I've seen wear their thigh holster way too low, and end up using both straps. With proper placement, most would only need the bottom strap. I've only been issued the 2 strap rigs....and always removed the top strap. I would think you'd be okay with a 1 strap rig...but make sure it fits properly before you commit.

First off, hope your injury heals as soon as possible...!!

Example: Safariland makes a "single" strap shroud "holster" assembly without the actual holster. Their more popular model is the 6004 ALS "double strap" tactical holster with actual holster...

The 6004 is the authorized tactical holster of for our dept...

Don't know what model gun you have, but Adamson Police has them on sale at a ridiculous price of $50!! I think there for Glocks, Beretta's, Sig's and S&W...

Copy. I have a couple of 6004s and a 6005 and use both leg straps on each - I prefer my holster not to move around very much. FWIW, I think Blackhawk's Serpa drop leg holster has two vertical drop straps (kinda like a big trapezoid)...

              Fellas:

Thanks. Healing still, but hip has been sore to touch. All I'm going to have on my waist is my backup surefire light and the Safariland 6004 Tac light holster. We carry SS P226 DAK.

Thanks for the insight, probably will be leaning more towards the double shroud.

I run a Safariland single strap drop leg set-up. Heck, could have been a double that I yanked the top strap off; been a while so can't quite remember. I find the double straps bind up and tend to pull my pant leg into a bunch. The single was much more confortable. I suggest using which ever retention system (rotating hood or ALS) that you are use to or that you will eventually switch back to. That way you don't have competing muscle memory issues.

One of the main mistakes I see with guys getting drop leg rigs is they set them waaay too low. You should be able to get a master grip on your pistol without bending or stretching.

I've used both styles and prefer the double strap version. The single strap seemed to have too much movement especially when I was running or kneeling. I like to have my gun/holster in one spot so I like the double strap. Ask around, I'm sure you will find both in your department, and give both a try to see which you prefer before you buy. Good luck.

UPDATE: Called Adamson Police today... tried to buy another Tactical Holster... credit card wouldn't go through. The rep said, "oh it's because we no longer carry the item" I told her the website should be updated...

Oh well... Should have jumped on the deal, but then again, don't know when exactly they ran out of the holster's at that price...
