Go 6" 5.11 ATACS. Nice and light, you can run in them, and when you're on your back doing leg lifts for motivation, they won't be as heavy. Go to an old school shoe repair place or Nordstrom and pay to have the first spit shine done. The first round requires a heavy base coat of polish. You do need to learn though, because most of your fellow recruits won't practice boot situational awareness. Angelus brand polish is probably the easiest to get that glossy shine with.

Be sure to break those boots in first before polishing too.
Damned was my issue boot for the academy. Since then I have gone to OTB and now Lowa Zephyr

Lincoln, warmed up in the oven to a nice soft paste, then rubbed in for what seems like forever.

I wish I knew about boot repair placed when I broke in my boots.

Danner Acadia are proven boots.. I've had the same pair for 6 years and only 2 re-soles done.

Danner Acadias. Can't be beat in terms of ability to be spit shined to a super hire gloss plus durability. They are proven, tested and tried and true boots. The Border Patrol issues them to all new trainees. Danner's customer service is top notch and they stand by their product 100%

For uniform use, you can't go wrong with Danner Acadias for all of the reason mentioned already.

In the Academy, you may want to go conservative on your boots. The Acadias shine well and work well.

Anyone have experience with Bates C3 boots? There's a pretty good deal on them right now on an Interweb gear site.

I used Bates Ultra-Lites for several years. Not the same, but they are similar. They didn't shine up too good but they felt great right out of the box and held up good. I was on a foot beat for two years with them and one pair lasted that entire time.

Not LEO, Military here. For everyday comfort and wear I love Danner they are pretty spendy but they last a long time.
When I went through TBS I wore Bates Ultra Lites. I had 2 sets, one for the dirt/PT and one for everyday wear. (another set of other leather boots for inspections). The Bates are awesome boots for that kind of thing as they are very light and almost wear like an athletic shoe which is great if you are not used to heavy PT type activity in boots. Plus, they feel great out of the box which is nice when you don't have a whole lot of time to break them in.

Danner Acadia shine up nice....but if u want the ultimate, Nike SF Boots...Super light weight (No joke!!!), Nike free technology on the sole makes it easy to run in, and leather shines up just as good, if not better than the Danners...I switch off between the two.

Rockys, but little bit on the heavy side. Good luck.

                                Danner Acadia

I have problems with my feet if I don't wear comfy boots.
Danner Acadia all the way. You can find them for $200, and with daily wear they last me a full 3 years. Full lining keeps your feet dry even in puddles. I added the laced in Danner zipper in the front....fast on and off. Also, before the first shine, put some alcohol on a rag and give them a quick rub down to remove the factory oil from the surface, let dry overnight. It will make it harder to get the polish to stick the first time if you don't. Kiwi polish on a wet cottonball, and lots of patience.
