I have a few friends that work for TPD. Good agency, but the washout rate for rookies is very high

Yes, good department, very tough FTO program. It's 7 months long last I heard instead of the POST mandated 12 weeks. Washout rate is high indeed. We have a guy who washed out there. He had some horror stories about his incoming class of recruits and how many didn't make it.

The crime rate in Torrance is also climbing fast. Crime bulletins out of there show an alarming trend.

Go read Porac before sporting that statement. I have talked to two officers from there and they are more afraid of the administration than the sheet bags.

I'd stear clear from that place. LDF. Loves Torrance because it keeps them occupied.

Two things I hold against Torrance PD - 1. they failed me on my BPAD responses during their testing process (funny thing is that my responses/answers would be exactly the same today as they were when I tested) and 2. they stole my buddy Jimmy away from LASD to their department... I know a few of their officers and they are Good dudes...

I know what PORAC does. I also read APB and their viewpoints. PORAC hailed a decision against my employer which mandated us hiring back a worthless person who can't get up off a chair to save her own life. That is not an exaggeration or figure of speech, it was literally what happened, among other offenses which are terminable... such as lying and blatant unprofessional conduct.

So if it seems like I am not 100% sold on PORAC being the golden standard of how you judge a department, you would be right.

Besides, I have worked under tyrannical regimes, and I hold those people responsible for their own behaviors. I don't attribute it to the whole organization, which have tons of good people trying to do a good job despite what is going on with some of the brass.

We all know how hard it is to effect change when you have bad people. The CA public employment system makes it tough, and when you add in politics, it makes it almost impossible sometimes.

As for LDF, yeah... if TPOA is represented by Lackie & Demmaier... I would also have a lot of reservations about judging the department based on their opinion. There is a local department that is just being filed on constantly for no other reason than to drive up legal fees. They are a good department with good policies and good officers... but the few bad apples just go running to LDF every single minute for everything. It reminds me of Yagman and Yagwoman and how they harassed LAPD.

Good luck to everyone trying to join TPD.

Lot's of great officers in that Department. I especially respect their Defensive Tactics training instructors.

Wonder how much worse it is than my department.
