LASD written test march 14th

I just received the infamous yellow card inviting me to the LASD written test on march 14th. Does anyone that has went through it have any suggestions on what I should be focusing on/expecting? Also I live out of town so any suggestions on a place to stay when I come up there the night before? Any advice helps!

You should focus on vocabulary, spelling, and reading comprehension. They will tell you the results right away. Good luck

Will there be any types of interviews or physical ability afterward or will a suit and tie be acceptable to wear.

No physical so don't worry about bringing your work out attire. Many applicants usually dress casual business attire for written exam.

Exactly what ODAWG said, I took some of the practice tests, they seemed pretty straight forward on what the correct answers were. Can anyone shed any insight on a decent place to stay fairly close. I will be making a 4 hour trip each way between my two jobs to complete the test so I am looking for a place to stay the night before.

Stay away from East LA. From what I could find on Expedia, your best (and safest) is going to be Alhambra, Rosemead, or San Gabriel. The ones I found that listed Monterey Park as an address are all on the south side of MPK and border some of the worst areas of East LA. Those will be only a few minutes away, as HQ is on the north side of Monterey Park. Don't go west of HQ either.

A friend who is in the LASD academy now found the self help police test prep books very helpful. You can get them at any Barns & Noble. The books have all the grammar and spelling rules we learned in grade school but forgot. Good refresher in the age of auto spell check.

Try Pasadena. There are lots of hotels on Colorado Blvd. It is reasonably close to HQ and is a good area.

Ditto as to what the other posters said about the test. I also went to my local 2nd hand book store and picked up some civil service/police exam books. I compared the questions from the books with the LASD test questions and used only those for reference.

Lastly, when you take the test don't read into the questions.

When I started the process back in August, I took the written on Sat and had my first interview on Sunday. It is my understanding that they are scheduling them about a week apart now though. You should call and tell them you are coming from out of town and see if they can do something to help you out like they do for people who live out of state.

The test is extremely easy unless you were the guy who struggled through high school.

Thank you for this, I had heard anywhere from a day to a week which is tough when I have two jobs 4 1/2 hours away. I will give them a call Monday and see if they can accommodate.
