Got a fix it ticket for tint, complicated situation.

So i just purchased a car yesterday and within an hour of owning it i got a ticket for tint (on my drive home). The problem is that i am currently a resident of Arizona where the vehicle is registered to me but the ticket was in Ca. I will be leaving for work on the other side of the country for 7 months next week. Is there a way to expedite the process or get it written off and pay the thing. I have never got a ticket and dont want something going to warrant or a stupid situation to happen.

Could my girlfriend take care of the situation/getting it signed off once it gets here or do i need to be present?

Any help is greatly appreciated, Thanks.

The car was purchased in CA, correct? If so, how is it registered into your name in AZ already?
Do you have a CA Drivers License? If you do, then you are a resident of CA and subject to CA Vehicle code.

Most likely all you would need to do is; remove the tint, find an officer to sign it off before you leave CA. Then mail the signed off ticket to the court when you receive the confirmation by mail to your residence.

If it has CA plates on it, I would just tear off the tint and get it signed off right away.

I purchased it in Ca and registered it in Az. I received the ticket while I was still in Ca.

I believe you can have the officer just sign the ticket they issued you on the back. Then just give a check to your gf and the signed ticket. When the formal letter comes in just stick in the original ticket and the check for $35 or $45 (whatever it is now) and you are good to go.

You have the option of signing the original yellow ticket or the one that comes through the mail.

You can have an AZ Officer sign it off. Someone brought a ticket to me once that they got on vacation and I called the CHP and the court and they both agreed that it was ok for me to sign it off.......

I think the OP isn't bringing his car to the east coast so that won't work...

Just checked my papers, when I got my tint ticket, I just used the original ticket (yellow) to get signed off. Was ok. Also you can talk to the court clerk and see if their are any other options. Doubtful they are much help but you never know

I'm guessing that you financed the car to your residence in your home state then? Rather than pay full in cash.

That depends on what county the ticket was issued in. LA County requires a "certificate of correction" and will not accept having an officer sign off on the ticket. This was because of widespread fraud in the past.

If, at the time the ticket was issued, the car had Calif plates/registration on it, tinted windows is a violation. If it had AZ plates/registration, then it is not a violation. Changing the reg after the fact doesn't make it go away.

Mechanical / correctable citations are vehicle specific and you as the owner or recipient of the citation need not be involved in signing it off. Anybody can show the corrected violation to any LE official, in some cases even a DMV official can sign off certain correctables. Keep a copy for your own piece of mind when USPS fails to deliver, then mail it in. Simple as that.

If the vehicle resides out of state and you intend to have it tinted then just pay the fine and be done. It may be cheaper than the hassle of removing and then replacing the tint.

If you think that out of state plates in CA will allow you to keep rolling with tint, think again. If it can be reasonably established by LE officer that you are in fact a CA resident than you'll not only get cited for the tint but for CA reg fees as well.
