    area command

So my dept is buying balls deep into this area command. It entails patrol officers identifying problems then figuring out ways to solve them. Some long term some short. This on top of calls and observed type stuff..
also We use a program to blog about problems and ideas.
Anyone else's dept doing something similar? And do you see it working?

Back in the old days it was called POP or Problem Oriented Policing or COP Community Oriented Policing. Same old song with a new name. Sounds like some bright young Lt. wants to get promoted because he has a "new" idea.....

Would suggesting using Orkin to help clean up the vermin problem on the blog be viewed as a productive comment???

we've had a blog for about 2 years now. At first it was mainly a complaint log. Everyone complaining about real, but mostly perceived, management abuse. It has now started to change and good suggestions at improving our efficiency have gained traction. We still have complaints, but now it allows mamagement to deal with those problems ASAP. It has been a benefit to our department over all.

The blog is for internal communications only. I just don't see how its different then anything else. When I started we also had POP projects. it just seems brass is really making a big deal about this...my gripe is that we had a copps detail that did this. Copps would take of such problems with support from patrol. Now its the otherway around. They're too busy helping LT's make PowerPoints to be out in the field. I can't wait to be chief. I stepped off the soap box

In my day, it was called police work. We didn't have special ninja teams in raid jackets and polo shirts.
