Baker to Vegas Information

Have any of you Cal Gunners participated or attended this event before? We were hoping to get a little information from anyone that may have been on the Baker to Vegas Ride. We have been invited to participate in the event and want more information on what to expect.

It's not a "ride" it's a relay. Officers run different legs of the race which are usually 4 to 6 miles in duration. Are you a LEO?

we are not LEO but work closely with numerous agencies are we are a gear supplier.

I understand it at the team captains meeting that they want vendors at the awards ceremony. There will be several thousand people there from agencies across southern california. They also usually get a team from Canada (RCMP) or England. Hope you can make it, I've certainly spent some money at your place so look forward to seeing your booth there.

I have worked the event at a stage for the last several years.

There is a rule book, which should give you an idea as to what the requirements are. The rules are enforced, for the safety of all. It can be hot and it can be cold, all in the same day. One year snow caused an early end to the race.

You need quite a few people and you will need quite a few vehicles, as well as a bit of equipment. Cell phones don't work in all of the areas, so you can't count on using that for communication.

I ran the first leg for my CHP Ventura Team twice (woulda been three times but got a nasty plantar wart and could hardly walk the week of the race).

Both times my leg was approx 7 miles. Each leg will vary in length & difficulty (change in elevation, etc...). Second time I ran, temps in the mid 90's. Extreme gusting winds later in the evening. Guys & gals running their legs at night got hammerd with the cold/ wind. I remember standing outside the casino after seeing Lance Burton. The palm trees were bending sideways in the gusts and im thinking, "man, those poor saps are out there running in this crap right now".

Lotsa fun tho. Highly recommend it.
