    SHOT Show 2012

Any Calguns LEOs attend the SHOT Show 2012? What pieces of gear did you see that really caught your eye?

I liked the Rock River 1911, and the FN FNS series pistols.

        Guns:

The Kel Tec KSG really is a cool shotgun. The super-shorty entry version was my favorite but even the full-size version was compact and easy to handle...There is a learning curve to manipulations because it is sooo different.

Springfield's new XDs is a neat idea... It has a very comfortable grip and is super-small for a .45. I'm really looking forward to the 9mm version.

I really really want to love the Kimber Solo. I hope they get the reliability worked out because it is such a cool small gun! It feels great in the hand. I also liked the Kahr pistols (I know both of these pistols aren't new, but I hadn't had the chance to play with them before SHOT).

The new Sig P224 is nice, but is still wide. The grip is very comfortable, however, and after the P290 and P250 problems, this is probably a very solid offering for them and Sig fans will probably be very happy to have a design competitive with the HK P2000SK, Glock Subcompacts, M&P compact, etc.

I had a very nice conversation with the Ruger representative about the possibility of some minor design changes if some of the smaller pistols were to be approved for off-duty carry. I also really liked the (not-so-new) SR9C... It really fit my hand well and had a nice trigger.

        Gear:

The new Streamlight SL20L is cool. It uses a 350 lumen LED with a focused beam giving a very long throw. It also runs multiple modes. I've been running a Terralux 600 lumen drop-in, which was a game changer for the BMLs (big metal lights). This light is a nice option as the beam profile, while not having as many lumens, gives a much further throw (I think) than the Terralux. I'm hoping to get my hands on one to test further soon.

They have a high-lumen tactical light coming out soon that will give both Surefire and the smaller Chinese companies (Fenix, etc.) a run for their money.

Surefire has the new R1 Lawman, which I believe will take rechargeable and lithium batteries. It has a neat UI (switching system) with a very tactical tail-cap switch and a side switch allowing mode switching for searching/etc. It's not cheap but it seems very well designed. I think I'll buy one. My personal jury is still out on the X300 Ultra...it is bright...500 lumens bright, but has a green tint that is a little...wierd... It's a floody light with very good spill and plenty of range for handgun duty, but might be a bit too much light for searching through a small house. This is another one that I want to test before I offer my full opinion...It could be great, could be blah. Not from SHOT, but I've been using a G2X tactical for the past month or so and it's the new 6P/G2 light to have! 200 lumens is plenty bright, it's simple, durable, and doesn't cost a ton either. It's "the" light I'd recommend as a tactical duty belt light unless you want to pay a lot more for an Aviator. They had several really bright lights, but after a certain point, I can't really figure out what I'd do with them. Same goes for some of the Super-bright Fenix lights, though I thought the 2200 lumen TK70 (I think that was the model) is really cool, though it might be too big for dept. policy.

I checked out the Crimson Trace booth and was both impressed and disappointed. I was really hoping they'd come out with a "lightguard" for the S&W M&P9C... They didn't, though they acknowledged there have been several requests and it's "in the pipeline". They have a small lightguard that was mounted on a 1911...It places the single battery directly underneath the light itself...It was thin, well contoured, and if fitted to a compact pistol, I don't think it would get in the way of concealed carry at all. That light needs to be adapted to compact pistols (the M&P9C in particular) as soon as possible!

I got a couple Troy Industries AR mags. I'll be testing at least one to destruction.

We stopped by the "Frog Lube" booth. They have a cleaner/degreaser that is plant-based and non-toxic as well as the lube. We have been having a really tough time cleaning the massive buildup of crud from the lens of the weapon-light on our 14" barrel 870s. We asked about using the cleaner on the lens and he gave us several samples and a larger bottle to try. We now have about 120 shotguns with lenses that look almost brand-new! My county M&P is probably nearing 2000 or so rounds without a cleaning, so I'm probably going to let it go a few more weeks then I'll try the Frog-Lube cleaner on that.

Zombie stuff was cool, and now it is officially waaaay overdone.

That's all I can think of for now.

Awesome photos! Those armored vehicles are bad ***! The piece that i was stoked about was the Trijicon optic that was mounted on the Ma Duce at their booth. That gun with that optic was awesome, means business. Frog Lube is an awesome product, we use a ton of it and sell a ton of it and have yet to hear any negative feedback.

There were a few new weapons that were really cool, but none of them are going to be available to California. The one that caught my eye was the Shotgun with the revolving magazine with a 16 round capacity.

Yes, the zombie stuff is officially overdone.

There was so much cool stuff I was on over load after two days of walking not to mention several good seminars. I also obtained mass amounts of literature which i am still sorting through.

As for the vehicle, well since everyone is debating over the new patrol cars those should be it
I want to see someone put that on tankerman's 10 month old horse dog. She would create a big plastic turd out of all that, lol.

Floating body armor that stops 30-06 rounds. About $500 for a front plate, and it weights 3.2 pounds. I was WAY impressed with it.

US Nightvision has a new adaptor for iPhones and some Androids to attach the model I happen to have, which allows you to take photos/videos of what you're seeing through it and automatically email it to yourself, with a time and date stamp. I'll be using that a LOT.
