for the first time in 3 years I am in a patrol vehicle for most of my shift, but while at work, patrolling, my holster is making my hip very sore. What do you guys recommend to someone who has not had to drive a vehicle while carrying a firearm? I prefer to keep my firearm strait, but am open to trying muzzled forward or butt forward.

Holster digging in my hip
Tags: None -
oh yeah, I use an uncle mikes dual retention with jacketed slot, if that is necessary to know. -
It takes time to get used to it. Even after returning from vacation, my hips took a day or two to get used to it.LASD Retired

Alright, I guess ill just have to suck it up. Thanks for replying.
what about a high ride holster?Comment

They all bothered me, even my old Hoyt breakfront for my revolver that had a reverse cant and my modern one with a forward cant for my HK P2000.
I'm not familiar with the Uncle Mikes holsters. I used Safariland the last 15 years or so before I retired. The nylon was a little better than the leather.LASD Retired

Do you wear a Sam Browne with an inner belt? If so, your Sam Browne (outer belt) is probably too tight. Loosen it one notch and see if that helps. Don't put up with the pain too long, you'll do permanent damage. The thing to do, my friends, is to admit to your fate with Christian resignation and live bravely until your appointed time." - Lee Marvin, "The Spikes Gang"Comment

TDlabs.com - buy that duty belt system and your hip pain problems will go away.Comment

Yeah, that is pretty much the style I use, but I use a Bianchi accumold with an inner belt. It is failrly loose and not too tight either, my stays keep it up. Honestly I think it is my jacketed slot on the holster. But then the other guys tell me that even their high ride holsters dig into them.Comment

Could be. I've never used that holster. My Ted Blocker was pretty hard on the hip, but my Safariland 6360 seems to fit the hip well.Yeah, that is pretty much the style I use, but I use a Bianchi accumold with an inner belt. well, ill try my belt a little looser and hope that will help the problem. Otherwise, I am in the market for a new holster. Luckily there is no bruise on my hip.... yet. But it just really makes work uncomfortable.
Anyway, enough griping on my part. Thanks for the help and suggestions. I think I will purchase a duty belt from the above link and a holster. Even at those prices, it is worth it since I will be on patrol for a long time.Comment

After about eight hours of a twelve hour shift, my thighs would start getting numb and I would have shooting pains up and down my legs, along with a dull ache in my hip joints. I tried lighter gear, Bianchi Accumold Elite as opposed to leather. I tried taking stuff off my belt. I even tried suspenders. None of it worked to reduce the pain and numbness until I tried the tdlabs belt. Now, five or six other guys at my PD have switched from suspenders to the belt system and are quite happy.Comment

I always place my sam browne at a reasonably comfy setting and then take it down a notch from there. I use 6 belt keepers to compensate for the looseness. I have a permanent bruise to my right hip, my wife thinks it looks disgusting lol.Comment
