    Does your agency allow it?

I know that some departments don't allow you to carry your personal rifles on duty (ie: AR-15). I believe that there are numerous benefits to allowing officers to carry their own rifles on duty (cost, familiarity, upkeep, ect). I was having a discussion about this recently and it seems that the "smaller" departments are typically the ones allow their officers to carry personal rifles on duty. I was wondering what departments allow their officers to carry personal rifles on duty?

Not my dept. Individual officers have to be trained, qual every year. Pick up one at the start of shift with the shotgun. We have semi only former M-16s with eotech optics/iron sight co-whitness (no pop up sights). One idiot pushed the rear sight all the way to one side because he said "it was in the way of the red dot". That rifle had to be re-zeroed. Another reason to allow individual officers to carry their own.

Yeah I dont get it why some departments don't allow it. The m16a1 style ar15 that are in most of the pv are horrendous, not to mention that upkeep is typically subpar. Last year Oakland CHP officers were involved in a shoot where both of the ARs involved malfunctioned and were taken out of battery. If these officers were carrying their own ARs, I don't think reliability would have been an issue. Not to mention that each AR would be personalized and comfortable to each officer.

                  Haha...No.

Sadly, I think that dream is dead for the time being. Things could change in the future, but currently it simply isn't going to happen.

I wish I had that juice card!

I carry my own. I love having my own.

we go through a week long class (put on in house), follow the policy in regards to buying one, optics, mags, ammo and sling.

                    and qualify with them

                        Must be Colt
No "gunsmithing" mods. ie, trigger work, non-stock internal parts.

Pretty wide open for optics, slings litghts etc.
