Two months ago I got a speeding ticket, to this day I haven't received a courtesy notice, and when I log into LAsuperiorcourts website, it says there is no record of the ticket. My court day is in a week, and in order to make it to court I have to take a day off work. I don't want to take a day off and drive to court if they are going to tell me they can't find my ticket. Now I'm not holding my breath thinking the ticket "fell through the cracks", I'm sure it's somewhere. I remember reading somewhere that cops have a year to turn in a citation, but what happens if they turn it in past the court date they wrote on the ticket? What should I do?

No record of speeding ticket?

Yeah I know people don't always get courtesy notices, but I would think that a week before the court date that it would be in the system. And I was hoping to get an extension as work is really busy right now, but if I can't access the ticket, then I can't get an extension.Comment

That sucks. Not sure why it would take that long to get processed. Then again, budget cuts, it's LA, yadda yadda yadda. I'd show up to be on the safe side.sigpic

it would , "look", better on your behalf to show up in court, prepared, ready to face a judge. if they are not, "ready to go forward", chances are, it will be dropped.sigpicComment

You can get an extension if you bring in your copy of the ticket, but then they will enter it into the system. So, personally, if you go to court, only bring in the number of the citation, not the complete copy. I made that mistake before.Kemasa.

I've had a ticket misfiled when the person entering the ticket into the system typed my birth-year wrong and filed the ticket with Juvenile court instead of the main traffic court.
I had gone to the main court on the date stated on the ticket and they had no record of the ticket. they gave me some sort of document stating that I had shown up on that date so that they wouldn't FTA me. never heard anything more about the ticket til it came time to renew my license. DMV sent me the renewal form stating that my license was suspended due to a FTA with the Juvenile court (I was in my late 20's, definitely not a juvenile). Went to see the Juvenile court judge that afternoon and he voided the ticket and FTA for me.Jack

My recommendation, go to court on that day... or at least call the clerk's office around 350pm the day before to see if it is on the docket for the next morning. If it hasn't made the docket by 350pm, it will not be on the docket for 8am.
If you show up, and it's not there, most likely the judge will send you home and tell you just wait for them to get back to you, as stated above, get something to show you were there in court. I see people ask for it all the time. If you never hear back, it may have been lost. It happens. I've known a few people it's happened to and there's nothing you can do, you got lucky. Sometimes they find it and summon you back, and it goes forward as usual.
Sometimes you don't show up, and you get a warrant issued in your name. Is it worth it?I like guns
