Ah. I guess to specify it more I mean the excitement and thrill. Are there times when you're driving that you just want to put the plate no. on the vehicle in front of you into an MDT next to your leg? Or turn on a spotlight to light up some bushes? I know it sounds weird, but I figure that once you do it for a while, being retired would just get dull. I don't mean to offend or anything, I'm just curious.

11 years for me to have 25 years in, and I can do another seven after that until mandatory Fed retirement. I can say that time really does fly by!Comment

Yup as above. My annual LEOSA was done in February so they did my Calif five year CCW early as it would have expired in December. That allowed them to only make one new ID card this year. I'll get a new LEOSA card in Feb 2012.Poke'm with a stick!

I really enjoy not having to deal with the stupid people. I do sometimes miss putting good crooks away though. Making good felony cases and getting someones property back really wound my clock. I still see many of the guys and gals from the PD, as I still assist with some firearms related matters. Plus my wife is LEO at my old PD so I get to go to all the various parties and such.
Funny I haven't reached for the "phantom" mike in my POV for years when I would spot a bad guy. I think no matter how long I'm retired I will always check other cars plates and look to see who is driving. Somethings you just can't turn off.Ah. congrats on the retirement. I have 14 years in an need to do 16 more to collect the day I leave, or 6 more and I can defer to 50. the benefit and negative of coming on at 22.... 16 more seems like a long time.Originally posted by Citadelgrad87Stop the thread, I want to get off.Comment

I came in at 22 and will leave at 33 1/3 years of service. Long time?...Worn out?...Ready to go?...sure am but the idea of retirement 2 1/2 months away is so exciting!!The satisfaction of a job well done is to be the one who has done it

Congrats to ALL you who have retired already... I have 1 year 8 months and 27 days to go.
For all you talking about the doing a qual and good for 5 years... as a reminder to be qualified for LEOSA it's an ANNUAL qual but there are exceptions.
Read about it here:

Congratulations. Only 24 more years to go for me.

Originally posted by E Pluribus UnumDuring Y2K my neighbor and I were talking and he said he had a basement full of water and canned food. He asked if I had stocked up and I said that I had. I told him I bought a 12 guage shotgun, a .308 rifle and several bricks of .22 ammo.
He is an anti-gun guy and he said. "Well, you can't eat ammunition". I replied with "When I'm starving to death with a case of ammunition, who's door do you think I am going to knock on?"Comment

I'm two bad days in a row from retiring.....hope you enjoy many, many, more years of retirement bliss.sigpicCertainly there is no hunting like the hunting of man and those who have hunted armed men long enough and liked it, never really care for anything else thereafter.

2 Bad Days in a Row
I hear ya. 35 so far, but just don't feel ready yet. My house will be paid off in 7, and my wife can retire at the same time, so I'll probably wait until then. Can't pay for a mortgage and health insurance at the same time. I've gotta say I enjoy my current rank and assignment, but there is little that is as good as it once was being a young Sgt. with SWAT and firearms instruction responsibility. Congratulations SVT-40. I think you've a long, stress-free retirement in front of you.Comment
