How far back can LEO's see in criminal background? Can they access juvenile records from 34 years ago?

I had a misdemeanor at 17 - I'm 51 - does it still exist?

It never goes away if properly kept. However, I haber seen enough instances where records were lost or not on someone's record even though we know it's there. Strange things happen with records.

Make sure that you mention any and all criminal matters, because as said, they will find them. Some applicants are under the misunderstanding that if their record is sealed because they were a juvenile, it cannot be acquired. It can.

Be truthful as that is what they are concerned with. Lying DQs a lot of applicants, even tho the actual criminal incident may not have. Once you are DQ'd from one agency, the probability of another agency not discovering that is slim. You will more than likely be DQ from them also.

The lites will permanently DQ you whereas the actual facts may not even matter.

If the inquiry is being done for a pre-employment check then it absolutely will come out as others have noted above. Not sure how deeply agencies issuing licenses to carry are going, but it's a strong possibility it could surface for that type of check.

The first, best, rule is to be up front and disclose when asked.

Sacramento SD told me very plainly when I had my LTC interview that if I had any juvenile record in California no matter how "sealed" it may have been that they would find it, so I'm guessing they are actually looking. He alluded to possible issues finding everything from other states, but I have no record whatsoever so I have no idea.
