    ticket letter in the mail?

My wife and I (I say that because we are both in the title) recieved a "parking violation" from LA county in the mail today, for double parking.

The problem is that we live in Solano county and our car(which the plate matches) has not been their nor have we....EVER!
We have owned this vehicle for over three years. We now have a letter stating we owe for a vilation in LA county, our car is a Mercury Sable but the paper states "Volks" (I assume Volkswagon) and states color black...our car is silver.
I just went online and stated this to the www.lacity-parking.org ! I told my wife to get on the phone with them in the morning.

Any Idea why this may happen other than a DMV screw up? I do not want this to become a problem. Any other ideas from you LE folks? Have I missed any other ways to nip this in the bud?

Parking enforcement put in the wrong plate but got the other descriptors correct. I wouldn't worry too much about it since a phone call should clear everything up.

Los Angeles County and Los Angeles City are two different agencies. Contact the number listed in the letter and explain the discrepancies between what the citation letter says and your registration information.

This happens from time to time when a letter or number is transposed writing the ticket or entering the info in the computer. This should be easy to get taken care of.

I received a similar mix up ticket from LA City and handled it with one phone call and about 7-8 minutes of my time. They were very apologetic. (kind of comical, since I was working for LA County Sheriff's Dept at the time. Had no influence on the matter since different agency)

I had the same issue about 6 or 7 years ago with San Francisco pd. I gave them a call told them I had never been there and gave them the description of my car. they appologized and said they would clear the record.

This was cleared up easily with a phone call from the wife today. The person she spoke with said they were sorry for the mix up and we should expect a letter in the mail in a week or two, to confirm this error.

Thanks for the responses. I have a purchase coming up in the next month and was worried that this may cause an issue if not resolved!
