    Apples and oranges.

Get a real degree. 20 years ago we told academy recruits that the average career was about 13 years. You blow out a knee or loss an eye you will get retired young and then what will you do?

I was thinking 35, 40 years of service and I was retired after 25. Sometimes you do not get a choice.

Substance abuse minor.......... No. That's just my opinion. I'd strive for Public Management, Administration or even Business Administration.

If you had the time and determination, I know it would be hard, but a minor in a language from any country in Asia. (Mandarin (Chinese), Vietnamese, Korean etc..) that would be fantastic! Again, I know that would be really hard, but if you buckled down for the next 4 years with an Asian language, it would get you far. It does in LA.

....Just my .02cents worth of opinion.

Thanks for the advice guys. My major is Political Science. My school does offer a Business Administration minor. That actually sounds like it could come in handy in a number of different fields and is pretty broad. I just thought Substance Abuse Prevention sounded different and might stand out among a pile of applications.

Also to TrailerparkTrash, my major requires four semesters of foreign language and I'm taking Spanish. The four semesters here in college will be in addition to 3 years in high school so I should be pretty fluent by the time I graduate. I know that will come in handy in law enforcement.
