    chp-traffic enforcemnt divison pd question

    i am non-leo.

more and more lately i drive the freeways and see moronic commercial vehicles driving side by side on 3-4 lane highways and some even 3 wide.

why does chp do nothing about these traffic causing nuisances?they fore all the slow/middle lane junkers over to the fast lane and screw the traffic flow to hell.

and why does no one punish the moron doing 50mph in the fast lane that causes a cluster-foul too??

just curious why this happens so much, isn't a traffic violation to go to slow??

You're assuming that that the CHP doesn't. But they do. One problem is that CHP staffing is at 1960s levels, when I think the population and number of vehicles on the road has increased quite a bit since then. Add the few numbers to the fact that the Highway Patrol typically takes drivers off the freeway for the traffic stop, just 'cause you don't see it doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

I think there are 42 million vehicles registered in California, and something like 6,500 CHP officers state wide, so do the math ;-)

Someone that is impeding the flow of traffic is a pet peeve on mine because it can (and does) jack up traffic long after that driver is gone. So yes, I cite that. And next time you meet a trucker, ask if he's every recieved an out-of-lane citation. It'll probably be preceded with something along the lines of "F--ing CHP..."
Urban legends are a poor basis for making public policy.

Try going up the Cajon Pass or over the Grapevine at peak traffic times when the truckers are running 4 wide at 30mph!! Frustrating for sure and I have seen CHP doing some enforcement on the Cajon Pass over the last couple weeks....thankfully!!

In my area CHP is not doing enforcement where there is not a serious problem. They are too busy running to calls for service. At night they get some free time to chase DUIs but in the day time they are hurting.

And consdering the budget get used to it. The academy classes coming up are pretty much just going to take care of retirements.

A lot of the time there is no safe places to stop a vehicle towing a 50 ft trailer (depending on the area). In the busy metropolitan areas, most freeway offramps are not able to accommodate such vehicle. On the 110 for instance you would have to have the truck lit up and follow it for miles before you can find a safe offramp. Sometimes all you need to is get in front of the truck and put you directionals to the right. They usually get the hint.
