It seems the CDC takes Zombie Pandemic more seriously than you:

Realistically, in a disaster in Cities, you need to have enough food, water and medical supplies for a couple of weeks. If you live in a rural area, you'll need more. In California, the most likely disaster will be Earth Quakes. Might be handy to have a bag with a few days of clothing, toiletries etc. in case you have to go to a shelter. Just remember, you will likely not be able to bug out of town due to road closures, bridges out etc., depending where you live.

Many times, you are better off staying at home if you can. Take lessons from real natural disasters. Katrina, Loma Prieta in 89, San Bruno, etc. Be ready for disasters that can occur where you live.

The guys on the outdoor/ camping/ survival forum cover your questions daily.

Try to keep food preps to things that you regularly eat and rotate them out into your daily meals. An emergency is not a good time to start a totally new diet.

I have one bag with several Mini 14 magazines and several boxes of ammo, and a fire starter. Mini-14 is my go to gun. Then I have a backpack with other items that I may need.

Which city is worse for zombies, San Francisco or Oakland? Only difference I am willing to bet is that those zombies moan crack instead of brains.

Although the zombie thing is really overplayed here, it's still a good scenario to use for general purposes. Look at the earthquake in Japan recently. There were areas there that weren't receiving any help after 3 weeks.

San Francisco, OPD won't tolerate zombies in their city, they send them to Berkeley where they blend right in with the population.

Edit: At least that's the way the old OPD used to be. Now they have this new mayor, the PD has been neutered and the zombies have their own camp set up in front of city hall

Fire you only need to get a couple of miles, and the roads will work: As long as you have your wallet even an Oakland Hills class fire (which I was evacuated from) it is really no big deal in terms of the bug-out process: you'll have good shelter, available food, etc. You don't even need to have a change of underwear because you can always just drop by the local walmart.

If you are in fire territory you want a good fire safe for valuables + off-site data backup for your computer, but your "bug out bag" for fire can be, well, empty: just grab the one most valuable thing (for me, back in 91, it was my $5000 computer) and go.
