    Gun Store Robbery Statistics Source?

In the never ending saga of trying to get an FFL to sell LE weapons...

A tenant in my business complex is worried about our getting an FFL because we may have an armed robbery. That concern is enough to keep my landlord from approving my application (at which point the whole thing ends).

I'm trying to find statistics or data on how much more or less likely a gun store armed robbery is than for other retail. I can't seem to set up a web search to get the info so I thought I'd ask in the LEO forum. I don't know where else to ask.

Is there someplace I can find statistics on armed robberies of retail stores. Being able to differentiate by store type would be a help.

    Thanks for looking in.

You have one stupid fool standing in your way and the way of your future customers. I wish you luck.

I don't recall OakTree having any robbery problems...

The best thing to do is check with your local PD. They can usually check on incidents recorded by address, not type of business.
Armed robbery of a gun store? Few and far between. What kind of business does this tenant run? Turn it right back on him, I'm willing to bet that whatever business he runs, they have more armed robberies that gun stores. Tell this tenant that once you get the statistics, you will point this out to the landlord and object to his business being there. Maybe that will shut him up.

Here is a general article that may help. http://www.crimedoctor.com/robbery1.htm

Local PD should be able to help; might also contact CA DOJ through their General Comment / Question Form - http://ag.ca.gov/contact/complaint_form.php?cmplt=PL

Since DOJ Firearms regulates FFLs, they ought to have an idea.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

Thanks for the replies. We're in a contract city so I'm going to contact the local Sheriff's station. I think there's a deputy assigned to business relations, though I'm guessing that might be more fraud related. The other business is an adult care facility. Whatever other problems they may have robbery isn't one of them. From what I've been able to gather (though still with no specific comparison to gun stores) it would be more dangerous, from a robbery standpoint, to be next to a convenience store.

I'll also try contacting CA DOJ.

          Thanks again.

I'd like to see the statistics on robberies at "average" retail spaces like your neighbor's vs. robberies at establishments which have a customer base which is mainly LEOs. OK, we might need to exclude donut shops from these statistics.

I don't know of a source for that specific of a break down. If your area has an online search database for crime v address like San Diego's ARJIS, plug in the address for a few guns shops. Then compare against gas stations and 7-11 type stores (aka stop-and-robs). You could even use the info from ARJIS.

Generally speaking robbery runs at about a 1-to-20 ratio v. burg/theft/auto theft in the UCR Part 1 crimes.

Just from what I have read in the news nationwide, I think your bigger worries are burglaries than robberies. I can't think of anyone that has tried to rob a gunstore while people were inside it.

The 2 local burgs I know of in the SF bay area were 1) A gun tried to ram his van through the front doors but were blocked by the security gate and the concrete barrier poles, and the other was where a guy tried to jack up the security gate to the front door, but once inside saw that everything was secured in a giant safe.
