    Considering law enforcement... again

About 5 years ago, I was actively pursuing many different departments and agencies in California but was unsuccessful in all my attempts for reasons that were never disclosed to me however, I believe it's because I can't pass a poly/ CVSA; no, I'm not lying.

I have my BS in Criminal Justice, and in the past five years have worked as an administrator in the loss prevention world of retail. Retail being retail and not law enforcement, I'm getting burned out and considering pursuing law enforcement again.

I have don't have any convictions, tickets, DUIs, drug use, etc. My credit is damn near perfect and the only debt that my wife and I have are our student loans.

When I last went through a poly, I was told that I didn't pass, and that I shouldn't ever apply again because I got stymied on three and I would be blackballed from any chance at ever being a cop

My question is, is that statement true? Do I have a fair shot at being considered, or should I just resign myself from the pursuit of a life long quest?

Any thoughts or opinions from the LE community are welcome.

    Keep applying, be truthful.

With that in mind, remember that you got to know when to hold them and know when to fold them...

My son in law had Riverside Sheriff fail him on the poly and within a week for other agencies he was in the process with sent him dq letters. His brother and his four best friends he grew up with are all deputies. He had the cleanest background of all of them.

He's now a police officer in Arizona where he has been there almost three years.

Find an agency that uses CVSA. The whole machine part of it is BS, the investigator is looking for body language and facial signs that you are lying. If you really are telling the truth, you will pass.

They are also looking for someone to "cave in" and vomit all over themselves during or immediately after the polygraph interview. The examiner would say something like..... "Joe, it looks like the machine didn't like a reaction your body displayed when I asked you about cocaine use. Are you sure you never even touched cocaine?

Then "Joe" replys with: "....uhhhh, well okay, I never used it, but I did touch some once in a zip lock baggie just to see what it felt like...."

Instant disqualification....... Even though the examiner may have been bluffing, just to get a reaction out of the examinee....

I retired after 25+ years as a policeman. So this is my advice.

You have a BS degree, why not join the Army as an officer?

Good example of the "rule of five". (I was an FTO for 7 years)
