    Using +P+ Ammo with a Sig Sauer 226 9mm

Has anyone encountered any problems using +P+ ammo with a Sig 226 9mm? I was ready about some wear and tear issues on another thread in regards to Glocks and +P+ ammo and was wondering if any problem may have been encountered with the 226.

It's a Sig, not a Glock. Have no fear.

Agreed. That's our dept issued ammo. My stainless p226 has never had a problem with that ammo when we cycle through duty ammo. And iirc the sig manual recommends it.

Not a worry with the Sigs. Our Glock 21s fell apart with 45acp +p ammo. The 17s are not as bad but do have some issues with the +p+ ammo.

No problems, 127gr +P+ rocks...just be sure to change out your recoil springs regularly

I can't afford to shoot enough duty type ammo (+p or +p+) to make it a problem. I can get a couple hundred rounds a year down range if I'm lucky. Now 115 or 124 grains at ~1150fps fly out the barrel by the 1,000's each year for years with no problem.

              From the Sig Website FAQ's:

"+P Ammo manufactured to SAAMI/CIP/NATO specs is fine to use as a defensive round or for occasional range use. Continual use of this round will make it necessary for more frequent service on the pistol. We do NOT recommend the use of any +P+ round. This may void your warranty."

I think this is more a Customer Service/Warranty CYA issue than anything else.

It also says not to use reloads which we all know are fine if done correctly.

Only +P+ ammo I know that's not suitable for any pistol is some ammo that was floating around for a while that was I think German made and created to use in 9MM sub guns. I forget brand name.

The pistol will take +P+ without a problem as far as the pressure is concerned for the barrel and slide. However, most Sig frames are alloy and constant use of +P+ rounds may make the frame wear out faster. Stainless steel frame should not be any problem from metallurgical stand point.

I have never been able to figure out why someone would want to use +p+ ammo in their guns. If you want +p+ pressures and performance out of a 9mm, then perhaps one should buy and use a .357sig. Although the saga continues. To some, a .357sig at "standard" pressures wouldn't be enough for them either. They would probably want to reload their own +p or +p+ loads for the .357sig too.

With today's modern defensive HP bullet for the 9mm going into someone's skull, heart, lungs (etc...), the argument for "standard" or +p+ loads is really an irrelevant point.

When my 147gr Ranger 9mm bullet goes into the heart of a bad guy, is he going to really feel the difference if it was a +p+ load going into his chest cavity? I mean, "dead is dead," right?

The +p+'s just pound on the gun and wear it out that much faster. Plus, they cost more money all for negligible performance not even worth mentioning.

Just my .02cents worth of opinion on the topic. To each his own.

I got into the habit, because the department issued the 226R in 9mm and the 127gr +P+ Talons

Don't get me wrong, I know some dept's issue the +p+ rounds and that's just the "way it goes." In fact, if it were my department issued gun, I wouldn't care what they gave me. However, for my personal weapons, I wouldn't load up with the +p+'s. I'd just move up to a bigger and faster caliber if the caliber I had wasn't "enough."
