Best way to memorize 10 Codes

I need to memorize the first 35 of the Ventura County Sheriff 10 Codes. What's the best way to do it?

Keep writing them as you say them.

You focus all three memory functions - Sight, writing, reading...

I would say just use them as much as possible or if that's not a possibility then flash cards of course. Kind of like a new language.

+1 to the flash cards. As an FTO, when I had trainees who had problems with their radio codes, flash cards were the best way to work on them. I did have one trainee who had his wife read the codes, recorded them, put them on his i-Pod and listened to them to and from the station. It worked great for him.

        Good luck!

Preface; I'm no longer a LEO
When I was a trainee I used flashcards. I wrote the codes on one side, meanings on the other. I would scramble them up so I'd get either the code, or the meaning. Shuffle, repeat. My gf used excel to make me random tests in scrambled order with either the code or phrase missing. Impressed the hell out of my first FTO how quick I got 100%.

            I'm not a LEO,

If you have a scanner, listen to it and follow.

Print you out a list, follow the traffic, when you hear 10-xx recall what it is and check you're sheet to see if it was correct.

That's how I memorized call signs, 10/11, and legal codes for my local LE.
I'm not a LEO nor Lawyer, none of what I say can nor should be used as legal advice.

Use flash cards, but make them yourself and hand write out the cards. Writing out the meanings aids in retention. 35 codes should be a breeze... we have more than 150 although many are rarely used.

When I was an explorer, reading them over and over again, writing them, quizzing yourself, and listening to the radio. I still remember a lot of them and it's been about 7 years.

The best way to remember them is to use them in everyday conversation. I think its great when people do that don't you? kidding.

Best way to learn the ten codes? Have your agency take a federal grant that requires them to go to plain talk!!!

+1 for flash cards. Write them your self and go over them 3 times. Take a break for a few minutes and go back over them. Do that at least 4 times a day and you should have those 35 memorized in no time.

                        Plain talk > 10 codes

This is good advice. Definitely write them out yourself. Thats what I did.

Like the others have suggested ..
                            Flashcards (big plus)
read, write and say them over and over...

the more you use them obviously the easier it will be to retain the info
