I have an electronic headset that I bought from Turners. Nothing fancy and it cost $70 IIRC. I also have a set of custom ear plugs made by the hearing aid office I go to. The double set of protection protects what hearing I have left.
I have hearing damage from my early years in patrol, so it is a work related injury. I also have a set of in the ear hearing aids, but of course I don't wear those while shooting.
Even if you do not have hearing problems, I might suggest earplugs and an electronic headset, so you do not develop any. I can hear someone speaking to me even with the ear plugs, but I don't get what I call "tunnel" hearing for 3 days when I go shooting with this set up like I use to.Comment

I really only use plugs. I've got some good foam plugs rated for 33db reduction. If I spend too long at the range (more than 3 hours or so) I start to get ringing, but I rarely stay that long. Any time I shoot I'm outdoors, so I don't have to worry about the sound being compounded by indoor ranges."The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants. I often use foam plugs AND electronic ear muffs.
My hearing is also shot from too much time in helicopters and sirens when they were mounted on the light bar right above your head.LASD Retired

I use custom fit plugs most often. If it's going to be big boomers I'm shooting, I'll put muffs on over them. I'm in the same boat as others above and my hearing is already poor enough... don't want it to get worse.

I use both electronic hearing muffs and plugs especially if I am at an indoor range. At my dept. range where it is open air and not enclosed the hearing muff are more than adequate.Napoleon, don't be jealous that I've been chatting online with babes all day.
