Need a little LEO info......

Is there a "system" or "database" that you have access to inside your patrol car that allows you to check or verify the validity of a legitimate Sheriff issued CCW? I know absolutely nothing about what kind of systems are even in patrol cars.

Reason being is that my job brings me into field contact with LEO almost daily, and they keep calling the issuing sheriff to verify the license so I was thinking I could ask them to check the "fill in the blank" system. I am afraid that my issuing authority is going to get a little funny when I go to renew and they have received over a hundred calls from various LEO's to verify my permit.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...........

It very much depends on what level of integration the agencies in the given county has. Are these contacts / calls in the same county as which the permit is issued in? And if you are running into the exact same LEOs every day I am left to wonder why they haven't put two and two together and connected your face to CCW.

In Sonoma County, where I live, nearly all the agencies are on a common Computer Assisted Dispatching (CAD) system so there is a great deal of shared information between the agencies. IIRC there is a common location on the CAD where dispatchers or officers in the field (assuming they are versed in that) can verify a CCW status.

If the agencies in the county aren't sharing systems or data, then it's likely going to be a phone call to the issuing authority.

If you are in a different county with no shared information back tot he county of issuance, that is absolutely going to be a phone call.

That makes a lot of sense. I travel all over N Cal so it isn't the same LEO. Never had a issue, just worried about all the calls to my county.........

Doesn't matter what system you use, all agencies with CLETS can run the CCW through AFS. But if your question is if there is one database that magically lists you without accessing the main state database, no. Not unless it's the issuing agency and they give the officers a binder list of the permits they issue. It doesn't matter about the number of inquiries you receive either. The system its not set up to track that. Besides, if out is just to check the validity, it doesn't have anything too do with misconduct of any sort.

I can't remember the name right now but I remember there being a state wide FI data base being talked about in briefing some time back..
