PC 832 Laws/Power of Arrest certificate

Does anyone know where I can enroll in an inexpensive POST certificate course (40 hours) as an independent person? I'm calling a few places in Southern California and the closest establishments require that I belong to a department or agency prior to enrollment -- which I do not.

I'm in the San Gabriel Valley (626) area.

Did you call Riverside County Sheriff Academy?
    West LA College?
    El Camino College?

Rio Hondo was the closest but they are still closed.

Don't know about SoCal, but at least one of the local community colleges here in Sac offers it. American River College. Try some of them in your area.

That is how I got my PC 832. Just check around your local junior colleges.

Have a look at the POST catalog and see if that helps. Junior college per unit student fees are set by the state, IIRC, and would largely be the same plus or minus a few bucks for local fees on top.

Just curious, is the OP's intent on taking 832 to be exempt from a Handgun Safety Certificate? If so, you'd have to have the firearms portion of PC 832, an additional 24 hours, as well. Those are getting fewer and farther between, Santa Rosa JC close to me offers the firearms portion only twice per year.

Ben Clark Training Academy, and San Bernardino Valley College offer it as a self sponsor.

Glendale College used to offer it, including the firearms portion of the training. Worth a look.

I'm pretty sure Rio Hondo lost it accreditation? Not to familiar with that area but I do know San Bernardino Valley College and Victor Valley College offers it. As said, many local JCs offer the program.

You can check Chaffey college in Rancho Cucamonga. They used to offer the full class, firearms and powers of arrest.

Rio Honda did. Over students getting answers to tests.

Ben Clark Sheriff Academy does too.

i was in the last pc832 class before rio hondo lost its accreditation. When I was looking for a place to take the course, rio hondo was the only place in socal that was offering it. Good luck!

Sorry guys, I had recommended Pasadena City College but due to budget cuts they have killed their PC 832 arrest course and firearms course for the rest of the year into 2012. they dont even know if its coming back then either. If you havent taken a class by next year, The class number is AJ 107A. It is the 40 hour course. Pm me if you want any more info.

I did have two coworkers that took the PC832 firearms portion through Orange county sheriffs Dept. they are affiliated with a school and may take self sponsors, good luck

Check out Irvine Valley College. www.IVC.edu They have one this upcoming semester. I believe it is currently full, but email the professor, He is a nice guy and will most likely let you in if you want.

I am pretty sure Goldenwest College in the OC has an academy.

                              What's a handgun safety certificate?
