Question about carrying firearm after work?

    Just a quick question.
I cannot get a straight answer from any of the security training centers about how to carry my firearm after work. I'm an armed guard & have a ccw but the weapon that I carry at work is not on my ccw at this time. I know that the weapon must be placed in a locked box unloaded. My question is, can I legally have my loaded magazines in my mag. pouch on my dult belt in the locked box with my unloaded firearm? My lock box is big enough that I can just take my duty belt off after unloaded my firearm, then re-holstering it then put the whole duty belt along with the mags in the mag pouch in the safe box & lock it down. Is it illegal to transport the loaded magazines in their pouch enough if the weapon is unloaded? Do I have to remove the mags from the belt and store them in a different locked box?

    Thank you in advance,
I know that I'm just a "security guard"
But I want you guys to know that I have the utmost respect for you !!
If I was not 50+ years old, I'd be right by your side... Be safe !!

Back in 80's when I was trained, it was legal to carry to and from work while still in uniform. You could not stop somewhere on the way. That was about 30 years ago, and I don't know if it changed now.

        Still an exception to 12031 - (d)(5)
        (d) Subdivision (a) shall not apply to any of the following who
have been issued a certificate pursuant to Section 12033.

        (5) Uniformed security guards, regularly employed and compensated
in that capacity by persons engaged in any lawful business, and
uniformed alarm agents employed by an alarm company operator, while
actually engaged in protecting and preserving the property of their
employers or on duty or en route to or from their residences or their
places of employment, and security guards and alarm agents en route
to or from their residences or employer-required range training.
And yes, the loaded mags may be transported in the same locked container as the unloaded handgun.

If I recall, security guards in uniform may have their whole belt with them including a loaded firearm, to and from work directly and no stops along the way... but then again, I see tons of security guards in full uniform going to 7-11 or other stores in full uniform in their POV... oh well, who cares.

I quoted the PC above, that allows in-uniform open carry to or from residences or places of employment.

                  Thanks guys,
I know that I can wear my duty belt on me while in uniform to & from work. But, what I want to know is can I carry the loaded mags in the pouch on my duty belt and have my weapon unloaded and carry them in the same box together locked. Does the carrying of loaded magazines on my duty belt w/ unloaded weapon in the holster and put them in the lock box constitute being a "loaded concealed weapon without a permit" ???

I am not quite following what you are asking. You can carry your loaded mags in your pouches all you want as well as a loaded or unloaded firearm in your holster. But what lock box? If you mean a gun case then you need to carry your ammo and firearm separate if I remember correctly.

You MAY carry magazines with unexpended ammunition (aka "loaded magazines") in the same locked container as the unloaded gun. You got the right answer in the first reply, by MaHoTex.

Down here in SD County. We have a notorious (no pun intended ) security company that thrives on looking like and sounding like the big leagues.

Called National Public Safety. I've heard them on their radio's and they mimic the SD Sheriff's here to a T. I went to a 7-11 and he was near the cashier on the phone. "This is Officer Bla bla, if you can give me a call back ASAP". He was armed, I just busted up laughing and left. They drive P-71s decked out with clear arjent bars etc.

A few years ago the PD here had a FTY which gained him VC 23153, 20003

Anyways to the OP as Librarian stated you're good to go. As long it's to/from point A to B.

I know some of the Security Officers who work for this company. The CHP was on their *** a couple of years back, they were doing traffic stops on motorist. So the CHP started to cite them for any little cite they could get on them. These guys really do think they're Police.

Can't you get those jokers for impersonating and even false imprisonment if they are illegally detaining people?
