Heck, the very first meal I ordered on duty, I watched from my table as it came and right as it got to my table, a hot call comes out and we were out the door before the food was set on our table. When we finally got back, the chef felt so bad he made us new dishes instead of letting us just eat the cold food.

It's neither good nor bad and I don't want pity nor am I rubbing it in anyone's face. It's just a fact of life for us. We have a radio code to put out that is supposed to indicate we are on meal break (every cop knows it) but it makes no difference. Even if you put out a meal break, if a hot call comes in, you go. You don't sit there while **** goes down. You just don't.

I don't even bother putting it out anymore. I just go eat when I can and pray I get to finish it. As for the fact that you see cops in groups eating, yeah, it happens all the time but wait for a call to come out and see how fast they all drop their food and run out the door to go to work.

It's the nature of the job. We can go 8-10-12 hours without one call and basically be driving around all day, and taking it easy in break mode. Or we can have those days when it's call to call to call and not have a break or meal the entire shift. I have lost 5 pounds in a month when we were super busy because I skipped meals for that month.

Not allowed! Portal to portal! Go straight to home from work if you are wearing the uniform. No conducting personal business while in department uniform. He was at the range too long playing around. Gave the impression that he was wasting taxpayer money by playing on duty even if he is off duty. We can't have that perception even if it is not true. God bless community activists who have nothing else to do.

hahaha, nothing says wasting taxpayers money more than getting paid by DMV fees.

Too bad I didn't get to this before you edited it. Cops aren't supposed to get tickets. We are also supposed to get free coffee, donuts, and food. We also get to carry guns and buy guns nobody else can buy. It's food to be LE.

Everytime a cop gets even a warning instead of a ticket thanks to professional courtesy, cop haters here poop their pants over the injustice.

                It's quite a misconception.
A lot of people see cops at starbucks or dunkin donuts or whatever burger joint it might be, and seeing them in groups of 3 to 6 or 8. And think why are we paying them so much to sit on their •••• drinking coffee for hours. Little does the public realize that they converge in those place because it's fast to get a bite and they can drop it and go or take the fast food with them in a flash, they tend to be in groups because they all got a bit of down time at the same time or they are simply taking a break, or even having all their discussions about the previous bust/call, but like he said up above, they are in call back status and when the radio beeps they're done, and might be another 5/10 hours before they get a break again.

                Aside from that

Notorious, I was just having some fun. I am a firm believer in extending professional courtesy whenever it is granted. What most people don't under stand is LE extends "profession courtesy" to the non-LE community as well, it's just call "spirit of the law."

giving free coffee and food to LEs makes good business sense, especially in high crime areas, it cheep random security

how many citations have you actually written to LEs? seriously

Forget it, I will stop joking here as well. I guess the cops here don't joke the same as the ones I know and work with. I don't ticket cops and I hardly ticket civilians. I don't accept freebies and I don't call out breaks. I just take it when I can get it.

Cops usually can't get stuff free at businesses it's usually frowned upon, but I agree it should not be prohibited
It used to be that way
