Ok, you seem to be about 20 years old so I'll be nice to you.
It doesnt matter if it is your first offense or your 20th offense. The violation still occurred. It is also your responsibility to make sure your vehicle is in full working order at all times. A cop's discretion is not automatically granted to you because you are a good person. It's HIS decision to make, not your expectation.
You can try waiting for a cop outside a courthouse as he is walking out. Other than that, I dont know where you live or where you are.
You should have read the forum rules here first. 3. This is NOT a place to air your dislike of the Government, Law Enforcement, LEOs in general or the law in general. Doing so here will result in losing access to this forum.
Bottom line is that your car wasnt working properly. You got a ticket. It sucked. Asking us questions (fishing expedition) that are rather pointless isnt going to win you any friends around here.
Whoa whoa buddy! I'm in my mid 20s and have been a po po for 3 years, dont lump everyone in my generation in one group

Start early, retire early. I started at 21, retired at 51. The only weird part is when you get towards the end of your career and are working with someone who wasn't even born when you became a cop.

Fight it and win and it'll still cost you $30.
Buddy of mine was "dismissed" on a loud pipes ticket, still cost him $30.
But you won't win it because you were guilty. Whether or not you feel that you should have gotten a warning or not, you were still operating a motor vehicle with malfunctioning lighting.
I've had 5 tickets for every "warning" Ive received.
I've received tickets when I felt I should have received a warning.
I've received warnings when I known damned well that I deserved a ticket.
How can you know?
At least once a week, check your lights.
How do you check your backup lights?
Go to a strip mall at night after they are closed and drive a circle in the parking lot, using the windows as mirrors to observe your lights.- Rich

I worked motors and patrol for 20 +, signed them off in the field all the time, if someone approached me and asked a favor, no problem, it took 20 seconds. I work inside now, still sign off tickets, no stamp, never heard of that one. Just the CVC section corrected, the date, my agency and my signature.
For the OP, dude it was a fix it ticket, you are making way too much of it. Your light was out, own it. Get it fixed, get it signed off, pay the court administrative fees and move on. It doesn't affect your driving record (unless you don't take care of it).
Good luck.sigpicCertainly there is no hunting like the hunting of man and those who have hunted armed men long enough and liked it, never really care for anything else thereafter.

Maybe LA county is different from other counties? Sorry I guess I jumped that conclusion.... But due to forged signatures as far as I know in LA county there must also be a official stamp placed along with a signature. At least there was when I retired. A few years ago.Last edited by SVT-40; 06-09-2011, 10:09 PM.Poke'm with a stick!

Deserves has nothing to do with it. Seriously, I believe the motor vehicle code does not allow for intent.Hi, I don't know if this is the right place to post this, but I got a ticket today earlier because my license plate didn't light up. I was given right off the bat a ticket (instead of a warning for a first timer never been stopped since that day). I wanted to get some feedback if I should pay it or fight it. I feel have very high chances to win because it was the first time ever to be stopped and how can I know that the back of the license plate (the light)is not working. I kind of found it unfair to be my first time and than I have to go (did research) the police station or sheriff and pay around $15 bucks and than pay the court around $25 dollars that is $40 dollars right of the bat. Any feed back of what recommendations (I have tones of time) what I want to know is there a high chance I will win if I go or does it get worse if I lose and end up paying more? If it was Los Angeles County the courts will NOT accept the ticket signed off in the field. They require a certificate of correction or CHP stamp. This is due to high amounts of fraud.
