All you need is your department ID and driver license.

you only need the letter if you are to waive the 10 day waiting period

They are correct and a request please. Please do not use CAPS as it is considered "yelling" on the internet. Thanks for your cooperation; now go out and buy that gun.

Policy Change Regarding State Exemptions for Authorized Peace Officers

Effective immediately, peace officers who have legislative authority to carry and use firearms may, without a letter signed by the head of their agency or the agency head's designee, purchase non-rostered handguns and/or large capacity magazines. The peace officer must present a valid peace officer identification card and the dealer must retain a copy of the identification card on file. (PC 12132 & 12133). A letter is still required from the head of the agency to exempt the peace officer from the ten day waiting period. (PC 12078).

Great info, thanks. Unfortunately I had a FFL telling me that my off list pistol would require a department letter. This was after the gun was shipped to him by the seller, I was pretty sure he was wrong but was having a hard time finding the info.

The dealer is dead wrong. Go to ProForce where they know what they are doing with Leo transfers.
