    Taser Activated by a Radio

Have you guys seen the video of a Taser being discharged by a radio? Apparently it is a recently discovered issue.

The video is QuickTime and I'm not sure how to post it. If someone knows, PM me or I can forward it to you.

Those Motorola HT1000 radios cause all kinds of weird things to happen when transmitting... just the other day, I had a nearby paper shredder turn on every time I keyed the radio...

This isn't a new issue. About 2 years ago my department went and bought brand new radios for the deputies because of this.

            Great radios though...

Some tv receivers will also trigger invisible fence shock collars. Always fun when someone asks you to put the collar on top of the tv.

I'm amazed that more RF interference doesn't occur.

There have also been cases where they shut off computer monitors and CPUs.

They also make security cameras move if the radio is next the camera control console.

This is nothing new. When I first went to Taser training, about five years ago, Taser International told us that keeping our Taser holstered next to our handheld radio may cause an AD of the cartridge. Personally though, I know several officers, including myself, who have kept their Taser next to their radio without having any issues. Many also still carry the HT1000. I used to also until a year ago when my department switched models. The HT1000's do cause a lot of interference though.

I wonder how many LEO's will end up with hip cancer because of those radios.
